Going blind from searching on this one so don't flame me if it's been covered.

Have read the various threads complaining about the difficulty of updating software on the NavIII compared to the 2820.

So...has anyone managed to get CN Euro 2009 on their Nav III, and if so, how and using which software ?

Have spoken to BMW and am told that support has been discontinued for the NavIII and that even CN Euro 2008 discs are no longer available.

Hope it isn't, but If this is true I feel for those who have paid top dollar for the NavIII unit..and as for me I'll be taking mine back this weekend for a refund from the guy I bought it off and stick with my NavII (which ironically is still catered for with new software) until something better comes along- (which includes being able to turn route recalculation off!!).:nenau

Tried Garmin themselves? IIRC Berin said he'd received a free disk from Garmin with CN 2009 on. He bought my Nav 3, and maybe Garmin were feeling guilty from the faff they put me through last year.

John,
spoke to Garmin..they tell me there is a BMW specific disk for NavIII's due to firmware restricting access to memory unlike 2820. Don't know if this is bull***t or not, but really want a handle on it cos I can return my NavIII this weekend for a refund and am tempted to do so if I can't upgrade it.

Dave - pm'd you back. No news yet, I logged into My Garmin, which now has John's old NavIII and maps registered to it. It told me I was due a free upgrade to CN2009, so I've ordered the disc using the linky.

I'll post up what happens when it arrives,

Well yes it is bull***t.. Have collected a new 'Genuine BMW' CN Euro NT 2008 CD this afternoon and its the cooking Garmin version...doesn't even say it's compatible with the 2820..says its compatible with the 2720, 7200. 7500 and Quest 2...so what is lurking inside the Nav II case...I always thought they were re-badged 2820 units,

Anyhow..still doesn't solve the mystery as to how to upload new maps, if, when they arrive. There's no additonal functionality in the install prgram. Is it possible to erase the existing maps & replace via the Mapsource 'send to device'command ?? :nenau

At least I can route on the PC now,

I just loaded the maps on (CN2008) via Mapsource, in the usual way. I'm hoping the CN 2009 will be the same:nenau

IIRC the Nav II is a re-bodged 2610, and the Nav III is a 2820.
Be careful with NT & non-NT maps. The 2610 is non-NT.
