Compufire 55402 series type reg/rec
Just chatting to a friend who has an old VFR800 & has suffered a miriad of electrical problems. He reckons the best option is the above Series Type R/R, if you really want to put the heat issues behind you. Essentially, the MOSFET is a more efficient R/R than standard, but it still sees the alternator running at it's full output capability, wasting whatever is surplus to needs in the form of heat.
With a Series Type R/R, the alternator only needs to generate sufficient power to provide for the needs of the bike's electrical system, so there is no need to waste energy in the same way. Sadly, these things don't come cheap, but there is plenty of chatter on the Aprilia/Triumph/Ducati Forums for anyone interested. Just stick the above header in Google to search. I couldn't see mention on here incidentally, when I searched, although other GS Forums have info.
