Anyone move the rectifier to where the 2011 models on have there's?

Was away recently abroad in 30plus weather and found the heat from the rectifier was very uncomfortable. I was thinking of moving it 90 degrees like the 2011 on models as it obviously gets enough cooling in there so wondering has anyone done it?

Unless they changed to a better quality rectifier i don,t think the cooling is the issue.

Can't see how it would cool better, I'd say it was moved for aesthetics rather than cooling

I agree it wouldn't cool any better but it would keep the hot air off your leg. My guess is that's why BMW moved it, never noticed it in Ireland or the UK but in Spain and Morocco it was a real problem.

Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistor

Developed by Shindengen in Japan & said to be a godsend for owners of Hondas of a certain vintage. Have a look at Wiki if you want to understand the tech. I can't find much about retrofit for BMWs but maybe these guys can help with a universal MOSFET R/R: -

Otherwise I have heard of others who have moved the R/R forward, to the front of the fairing, but it seems like a lot of fiddling about when a MOSFET seems a better solution. Not cheap though guys & gals.

Compufire 55402 series type reg/rec

Just chatting to a friend who has an old VFR800 & has suffered a miriad of electrical problems. He reckons the best option is the above Series Type R/R, if you really want to put the heat issues behind you. Essentially, the MOSFET is a more efficient R/R than standard, but it still sees the alternator running at it's full output capability, wasting whatever is surplus to needs in the form of heat.

With a Series Type R/R, the alternator only needs to generate sufficient power to provide for the needs of the bike's electrical system, so there is no need to waste energy in the same way. Sadly, these things don't come cheap, but there is plenty of chatter on the Aprilia/Triumph/Ducati Forums for anyone interested. Just stick the above header in Google to search. I couldn't see mention on here incidentally, when I searched, although other GS Forums have info.

No not that! I'll dig out all the details later, the plug was a Gsxr one, they have the same amount of stator wires and pos/neg as the BMW, the Rec was a black one to match the bike. Can't remember where I got it from though

eBay item no 371693525699

Cut off the two white plugs and solder into your loom, only one bolt fits the bracket but mine hasn't moved
