Anyone moved from a 1260S Mylti to a Rally?

Had my 1260S first a few years now and fancy a change. For no logically reason I’ve become “Rally curious”. Obviously the tank range will be more, and the V4 will be more powerful, but to live with, what are they like in comparison, does the narrower 19” front effect handling much?

Also there seem to be way too many variants - can anyone summarise the differences?

Cheers

I also have a 1260S and it's a very capable bike and I am so very happy with her but, having recently sold my BMW R1200GSA TC TB with the big tank, I too fancy a Rally (but I don't want to sell my 1260S just yet!)
Unfortunately, although I'm fairly tall, my height is more due to a long back than long legs so the Rally is too tall for me before the 2025 model with the ALD (lowering device).
I hope to have a demo. ride on one later this year and then I'll see how we fit together and take it from there.

My 1269 is in for a service this week, so hoping to have a good look around the ones they have in. If it’s dry, I might see if I can get a test ride. I’m about 6’ but it’s mainly in my legs, so hope to fit.

I'm the same height as you but upside down!
The V4 will have to be exceptional to be an improvement on my 1260S (which I can flat foot as standard).

Same, I can flat foot my 1260.

That's why I sold my 2013 GSA TC as I was always on the balls of my feet whereas flatfooting the 1260S made the GSA feel less "secure". I'll have to be able to flatfoot a Rally too or I won't be interested - maybe a Pike's Peak instead?

There was a bargain in Abingdon Ducati when I was test riding - a guy bought the full works Rally with every extra - without a test ride. Got it delivered. Dropped it in the first 30 seconds because he couldn’t get his feet down. It went straight back in the van and was up for £5k cheaper.

Lovely bike, if a bit dull. But a big one.

Dull????

Yeah. Compared to a 2014 full fat fire breathing straight thru exhaust 1200S Multistrada.

Don’t get me wrong, a lovely bike that really shows its Audi heritage. But a bit like riding a Honda.

Lot taller and you notice the weight and miss the torque.
Lot smoother and more refined but not for me , I like the punch

V4 Rally is no RS but if and when Honda build anything remotely close to it without making it weigh 300kg I’ll be at the front of the queue.

I’ve never had a 1260 but I did have a 1200 and a V4S.

As a pure road bike, V4S every time. As a genuine dual-sport touring bike, V4 Rally. I have 32” inside leg and the Rally is easy to master but as a road bike, it’s too soft and too lardy.

It’s no different to the way a GS is a vastly superior road bike to a GSA…

Not ridden the Rally, but once test road the Enduro, which for some reason was fitted with the high seat option (34.6 inches). It was tip toe only and that was on one leg only as my 31 inch inseam struggle to touch down with two tip toes! I found it a bit lacking in grunt until it hit 5K revs, much preferring the lower down grunt of the big twins, but once past 5K it picked up nicely and was ballistic from 7K revs upwards. Seems an odd thing for an enduro style bike as most I've ridden have had more low down stomp where it's needed. Very tall suspension, very smooth riding (felt more like an IL4) and very neutral, stable handling but not for me. Much prefer the big twins or later V4's. A few others came out on the same group led test ride and all but one managed to drop their bikes in slow traffic when needing to stop as that particular model seemed to stall all too easily below 3K revs.
