Have a look on this website http://www.ifixit.com its a US based site but lots of videos on how to etc if your handy with a screwdriver (well the fancy ones that Apple use) you can do it yourself..
Have used them for bits a bobs myself not sure if they post to the UK but worth asking...
Cheers Pete

What Timolgra said.

Cost me less than a fiver. Don't expect it to look as good as new afterwards unless you can carry out the repair in a dust free zone.

Most important tool required is good eyesight!

i think replacing the screen on a 4 requires working from the back and taking every single component out

might be wrong though.

Don't blood believe it!!!!

Wife just left for town with son's iphone to fund a stall to fix the broken screen...

...daughter sheepishly comes into study ''Dad...''

She dropped her iphone last night and was too scared to tell me when I picked her up at midnight

Now another iphone 4 with a broken screen :blast

Just phoned local phone repairer, iPhone 4 back £30 fitted, takes about 15 mins. That's what I will be doing one day this week.

I can do an iPhone 4 screen in about 45 minutes, just did my mates daughters phone last week. Hers was a total mess, suffering from bodged previous repair attempts as well as the impact damage to front and rear glass.

As someone stated, you remove the back, then remove the battery and systematically disassemble the phone until you can remove/replace the screen and digitiser assembly (which comes as a bonded unit).

Care must be taken to fit the correct screws in the correct place as the phone can be rendered useless otherwise.

The parts cost me £35 from WeFixMac who supply genuine Apple components.

If you can get it done cheaper, you've found a good deal.

Colleague at work broke hers. Paid £50 for a professional replacement. Within 2 months she had flogged it on ebay and bought a Galaxy S3. Apparently the iPhone replacement screen was not 'loved' (her words). Still, would have to have been pretty shit to make an S3 screen seem good.
