Their nice .... but not that nice :spank

If I was buying some I`d get them for the handling change on the bike not the looks :thumb If I was bothered by looks of a bike I wouldn`t have got a GS :D

Post them pics Steve :thumb some of us think it`s a good idea :clap :clap

Thats the beauty about the GS IMO the variety of uses people put them to from off roading with TCK`s to loading them up with luggage & doing 000`s of miles in a different country/s to putting 17" wheels & sticky tyres & making a big supermoto out of it! :clap :clap

Different is good!

Wheels

Well tyres on and wheels fitted to bike, the standard rear can will not fit at all, and even my Akra/ BMW can is close might space it outwards slightly more.

Looks very good Steve :clap :clap I see what you mean about the tyre clearance but it does look nice with the fat back tyre & black wheels. A smaller front guard will set it off just nice :D
Have you ridden it yet with the new wheels?

Carbon guard

Not ridden far Lee just a couple of miles weather is krap,,,,,,,, yes going to get the short carbon front guard from "Sandbar Composites " Tel: +44 (0)1295 812792, the boss Nigel Woods has been very helpfull and has lots of carbon in stock.
You just have to be carefull with the main stand on a 06 GS as its close to the tyre, 35 id different, some members have had peoblems in fitting a BOS system because of the different layout on the 06 mainstand compared to the 05 one.

Steve

Looks good Steve, let me know what you think of the ride.
I have the non BMW Akra end can & there is at least 1cm clearance.
Regarding the centre stand, I have noticed that when I take the bike off the centre stand & it springs up it hits the underneath of the swing arm quite hard, so I now keep my foot on it & let it up gently.

Enjoy the ride.

Thanks Rod
No the stand is ok with the location of the left rubber on my Akra/BMW can it the footmount of the stand catches on the tyre,06 stand is bigger in that area.
I relieved it a little so theres enough clearance now.
I to now keep my foot on the stand anyways i just got into the habit.
Are you pleased with your front guard Rod its a Boxer design isnt it, how does it fit.
steve

The front guard is Boxer -design. It came in a VERY basic & bad finish. The paint shop had to do a lot of work before they could paint it. Apart from that it fits well & now looks good. In fact I think it is a big improvement to the front of the bike.

Yes i believe the finish isnt good on some of there guards, i purchased one of those ilimburger Supermoto guards from Nigel at Sanbar today get it wednesday, so will post the verdict when it arrives and is fitted correctly.

Very nice work... :thumb

After reading the test in SM magazine, I really fancy doing this conversion to my 05 1200SG. However, I’m thinking of using the R1200 S wheels, as they are painted black as standard and the rear is a 190
Has anyone used these wheels??

Is there enough clearance to for a 190 rear??

Questions, questions…..

PS. i could post scanned images of the SM test if anyone's interested (is that legal  )..

I'm also seriously thinking about doing the conversion (cant keep my eyes out of the pics of Rod and Steve's mods - well done gentlemen) but just dont find any models and advices here in Belgium so hopefully I have already had a few answers to my questions but if you could help me further, that will be appreciated :clap

a friend is proposing me a brand new set of r1100s, will they do the job or do I need to go for st1200 only.

couldnt find the front mudguard on sandbar's website, is it better to contact them direct or am i too silly (could not find st1200 neither) not to have seen it ? how much did you pay for Steve ?

well any other tips re. the conversion are welcome as you can see I'm a bit paranoiac :o

Many thanks in advance
Michel (its a girls name but Im not... :nono )
