Anyone test-ridden the new 1250 GS yet ?

It’s not a UK bike

Not made to such a high spec as our bikes

It does look at home on that truck though! :D

I don’t think that’s what BMW meant by off-road, in their marketing! :JB

It’s been like that for a long time. I spent over £1k on HP stuff for my Rallye, and it looked like a tarts handbag. Was worth every penny.:D

I knew about the levers, rear set etc but not those fancy engine and rocker covers for the GS. Sure for the R nine. There is even non HP stuff called project something or other so everyone knows your an expensive tart :)

I test rode the 1250 GS HP spec bike last Sunday. As soon as I sat on the bike I realised how much I had missed owning one after riding a KTM 1290GT for 11 months. I really liked the look, the finish is what we've come to expect from BMW.

The TFT screen is great, a real leap forward in technology from the old style clocks. The self cancelling indicators are a nice addition as is the black switch gear. Its a shame its not illuminated though. The weather was awful here on Sunday, so I was riding in rain mode most of the time, and the times I did get into road mode I have to be honest, I didn't feel any quicker than the last GS Rallye I owned. The bike felt great though, comfortable, well equipped and enough power to keep most happy.

One thing I did notice though was the vibration. On downshifts its awful, and at cruising speeds it's bad enough to spoil any ride out over 30 minutes long. I pointed it out to the sales guy who agreed it was excessive on the downshifts and a number of the Motorrad staff had commented on it.

The thing that amazes me is, with the millions BMW invest in their products and product development. The testing, lessons learn't from old models etc, who the hell signed this bike off as ready for production? The vibration is awful.

I would have placed an order on Sunday if it wasn't for this issue as its a lovely bike, I really miss owning a GS, but BMW need to sort out this issue before I commit to buying one.

Out of interest have you tried the 1290 SAS and if so how does that compare - GT is obviously something very different ;)

I'm puzzled by this mention of vibration ; what vibration??. I think its a lovely smooth engine\ride, there is some low level characteristic of a flat twin that you don't get with a 90 degree V twin but nothing to speak of.

Time for a 1290SAS then, Chris ;)

I didn't get any downshift vibes, just bang it down with the quickshifter, lovely engine and box.
I rode in Dynamic on a damp day.
It went like s--- off a stick squirming the back tyre.

I've owned 4 1200 GS bikes, including a 2017 Rallye and 1 GSA in 2015 and none of the bikes vibrated like the 1250GS I rode Sunday. I'm going to try it again this weekend and spend more time riding it and going through the rider modes etc. As I mention in my original post, 3 of the sales team agreed about the vibration when shifting down, and whilst I appreciate it has a "quick shifter", I would like the option to change down manually on a £16k + bike without any vibration.

I think its worth the wait to try the new GSA when its in the showroom as my last GSA rode lovely, smoother I thought than the GS.

You could be right Rich. Its time for a change for sure. I've had the GT for 11 months now and I had been holding out for the new 1250GS, and I may still get one as I have room for a few bikes in the stable at the moment :D

I really miss my K1600. I sold that before giving a chance really, and regret not keeping it for loner.

Anyways, watch this space...
