Just wondered if anyone has ridden any of the new boxers with the non-servoed ABS and how the brakes feel/work etc. I'm due to replace the GS soon and aren't sure whether to go abs or non-abs so any improvement in the abs system would be very interesting and would probably make the decision for me. I've never had the ABS activate except when it shouldn't such as rumble strips etc. so I'm not really convinced by the BMW ABS but the new one might be better and is suppossed to be more fail safe.

Hi,
Got my new GSA 2 weeks ago. It's a 2007 model without servo and with abs.
I'm happy with these new brakes, they are much more progressive than old servo brakes. Hand brake works very fine, rear brake needs a heavy pressing, and feels not so powerful than old servobrakes, but still i like these more.
During ~50 th.km. with ABS I have had only 2-3 situations where abs has propably helped me to avoid crashing, or at least loosing control. But isn't it enough ?

I'm the same only had the GSA 2 weeks but making a comparison to the servo'd bike I took for a test ride I find the brakes more than adequate.
I had frightner tonight which needed a big handfull of front brake but did not feel the ABS kicking in at all. So far so good.

I had a two hour test ride on an R1200R at the weekend. All I have to compare it with is my 10 year old R1100R. The brakes on the new bike were powerful, but I thought the front one lacked feel compared to my old bike - poorer modulation. The rear brake as more powerful, but the ABS did activate a couple of times, and this on only a two hour test ride. I did take it up into the Lammermuir hills on bumpy gravel strewn roads though. All in all it was a cracking ride and the brakes were perfectly adequate. They probably wouldn't be bedded in yet as the bike only had 300 miles on the clock.

I also have recently bought a 2007 non-servo ABS GS1200. Only done 350 miles so far, but compared to my previous servoed GS1200 first impressions are good, although I really need to get some more miles on it. I do like to have the safety feature of ABS, and whilst i never experienced any problems with the servo system, the new bike does take away that nagging possibility that one day the dreaded residual braking situation might occur.
I would agree with the earlier reply that the rear brake does not seem as powerful, but this could be due to it not having bedded in properly yet, and is probably no bad thing any way. (Compared to the Ducatis I had previously it is much more powerful!).
Hope this helps.

I have a -07 GSA with the new brakes, I also had a -06 GSA with the servos
that went totalled this summer. The new brakes is more progressive and
responsive. There is a lot of power, I can easily do a stoppie with two fingers.
I also like the new ABS on/off funktion, at the new system you don´t have to
turn off the ignition to switch off the ABS. You just have stand still at idle
and push the button. What I doesn´t like is that the new ABS is pulsing more
because of the wider gaps in the ABS sensor ring, they have also done that
on the rear. The -06 ABS felt more "floating" when it kicked in.

Have an 07 GSA with no servo`s or ABS and have to say it`s a much better system and the brakes are extremely powerful and feel right! Done 1000 miles in two weeks, much of it in the wet and they are top notch.
My old 1150GSA had ABS and although the system was OK, I never felt comfortable with it and wouldn`t go back to ABS.
