Anyone Upgrade to new Tenere ?

Just curious, anyone upgrade to the updated ( not new ) model ?

Was out with a buddy here at the weekend who took the plunge from the GS to the S10, and very happy about it. He'd be fairly accomplished in biking terms, and diggin his new Super Ten, A LOT

My late 2012 is fine, no issues at all. With the ECU flash its all roses.

The aesthetics of the new one with led indo's, new display and revised styling touches, improved mpg (?) and slightly more power (2 bhp), improved engine mapping etc may be enough to sway me...but Im not sure.

I could probably buy a whole new ( and not loud ) exhaust system and get another 7bhp while saving weight.


My guess is they have a new Super Tenere in the wings, but its not been suggested, but i think so. But it could be another yr at this rate.

Talking to someone on Yamaha stand at NEC who reckons new super tenere will be here within two years, talking along the lines of a gs (more road biased) model and a gsa (off road , larger tank etc) model

I considered the updated s10 as my 1st Ed s10 was approaching 5 yr old and starting to show some issues , pannier locks were getting more fiddly , broken/dead spark plug coil, clanging final drive tolerances that dealer claimed were in spec, cam chain rattle at cold start even though it was only @11k miles. I didn't feel it was enough of a change/ update/fix plus not wanting any electrickery on the suspension swayed me into other dealers and I ended up with a KTM 1190R adventure. I figured after 3 years they'd probably ironed most of the bugs out and not got round to making or adding new ones yet . All I can say regarding the 1190 is WOW!!! you certainly notice the extra Horses and less KGs over the S10 and it corners more than fast enough for my old brain and better than the ponderous S10 ever did ( in my hands) . I would have looked long and hard at the Honda new twin had it been out but it wasn't and I didn't want to wait a year , maybe best to hang on and check that out if you don't like orange (I had a few over the years and keep going back) . Have fun working through your new bike want itch

I went with upgrade what I had.

I have Arrow Headers which add 6BHP but bugger fueling, with a custom flash (Dyno setup to optimize Fueling and ignition as well as remove restrictions) I am now over 10BHP up on peak power over stock, but more importantly my bike makes more power at 6k than a standard one does at 7.5k so it is very noticeable in normal use as you get the same grunt about 1,000 rpm lower.

I doubt I would notice the 2BHP improvement on the new model.

I also have fitted a Wilburs 3-Way adjustable shock and had the forks re-worked so I doubt the new ones suspension would be much better.

I am tempted to get a later clutch basket to smooth it out, but then remember I do not actually find it that vibey.


Would love Cruise Control, but that is the only real feature I want that I cannot make up for with my bike, and at about £5k to swap it is not worth it to me - especially seeing how many of these bikes have now topped 100k without major issues.


If in the market without a bike I would pay a bit more for the later model, but as things stand will keep mine, in another year or so I could buy a Tracer for the same cost as exchanging my S10 and have two bikes instead of one.

Totally agree with Rasher

I went from a 2013 Worldcrosser, to a new electronic suspension version on March 1.

My new bike is a 14 model with all the Worldcrosser and accessories stuff moved across including my Givi AirFlow screen which involved the removal of the screen adjustment bracket.

Is the 14 bike better than the 13? Yes in my mind. Upgraded clutch, slightly more powerful and quieter engine, better fuel consumption, cruise control, gear indicator, led indicators etc etc. and I really like the electronic suspension. The only thing I'm not too impressed with is the new digital dash....I prefer the old one with an analogue rev counter.

BUT

I only changed after being knocked off my 13 model. I thought that was a keeper and although the damage was only cosmetic the bike was never the same in my head.

So in conclusion, I think the 14 model is a better bike than the 13 out of the crate, but not by much. The bike has evolved but not enough for me to 'upgrade' without the myopic car driver that pulled out infront of me.
