Anyone use Open Office?

My wife has just got a new laptop and wants a word processing programme. I've always used microsoft word but can only use this on 3 computers (have used all of these now).
I've heard of Open Office but know nothing about it - anyone know if its worth downloading?
£70 for MS Office seems a bit costly if there is something similar for free

Yes, i use it daily. it might not be quite as polished as MS Office 2010, but it aint bad, and definitely worth downloading.

Remember to change file type to .doc so you can use the document at work though.

Writing is my bread and butter. If Word was free, I'd still use OO.
