I bought a R100RS unseen off a gent on a Buell forum a few weeks back. I wasn't expecting much but the guy seemed honest and the bike was tested and MOTed and not overly expensive. Anyway when the bike turned up I was pleasantly surprised: the bike looked a bit tired but the frame has been powder coated to a good standard, the engine has been polished to a very high standard in the past and with a mornings elbow grease and a tube of autosol will probably come up like a mirror, the engine has had new barrels sometime in recent years and the brakes are the later (I think) Brembo version fitted with SS lines. It's got me thinking, a lot of hard work has already been done and the bike and it would make a nice Cafe racer project.

Flatracer sell what looks like a nice kit. Linky here: http://flatracer.com/#/bmw-package-deals/4538147751 The full kit costs £1299.99 and the cosmetic kit a reasonable £899.99

Has anyone used this guy before, is the kit anygood?

I would keep all the original parts so I could return the bike back to standard if I decided to in the future. The only part of the kit that looks wrong, imho, is the tank which sits too high. Any thoughts?

Here's the RS I bought.

Hmm, Didn't Thunder do a cafe racer with one of these kits. january time I think it was.

Val.

Can't help with your query, sorry, but it looks like nice kit at a very good price. I can see why you'd want to give him a go :)

Agree with you about the tank though, I think the main problem with it is the large seam that runs all the way around it.

Looks like a pair of Nivomats on the back there.

Clip ons and rear sets. my neck and wrists ache just thinking about it. Are you sure you're ready for it? I spoke to Thunder when he first got his running and got the impression that the riding position was pretty radical :D

I've had a couple of bits from Flatracer, his kits nicely made. Just don't buy his S fairing kit the mounting brackets are awful.

I bought the 's' fairing from motorworks which was £90 complete with the cocpit housing and a slightly higher tinted screen, they provide brackets as well which took a bit of bending and fettling to get it sorted. Was something like £90 all in compared to what looks like the exact same thing for £149 :nenau

The tailpiece and rest of the stuff can't comment on but it does look well manufactured.

I've also just bought an old RS and was toying with something along these lines. I'm already at stage one....the original fairing is removed:D

Trouble is with these kits is that you end up with someone else's idea of a "special" and then they all look the same even though the standard of workmanship might differ. ts also a shame when a perfectly good RS gets rubbished to make a special. I personally would restore the RS properly and but a nail to build into a decent special. Oh and none of the glass fibre malarky either. Alloy tank and mudguards a must.:thumb

Flatracer make a nice short front guard which fits on the the tubular fork brace.

I have one , and their tubular brace, and they are both well made and fitted OK, Pricing was good too, so it looks like you have to shop around.

There's a nice rs in the may 2007 classic bike. Flat racer 900ss fairing and seat unit but standard tank and exhausts. It looks much better than the full flat racer kit.

Thank's for the info everyone. After thinking about it again: Pastyman is right, the bike is too good to mess with. I think I will tidy the bike up and keep it standard.

Looks like a pair of Nivomats on the back there.

I can't see a brand stamped on the shocks but they are air assisted: do Nivomats have any advantage over conventional shocks?

Good decision Devon, I thought the same as Pastyman, Tidy old airheads are hard to come by at a reasonable price, they're a finite resource, lets look after what we have left. :rob

:clap:clap::clap:clap Nice RS will suit your fine collection much better.
I think the colour scheme on yours was the best anyway.

I think so, plus as Rob Farmer pointed out :augie :augie :D

Nivomats were fitted 90% on RT's not RS's

as to Devons Question,
NO !!!!!
The're fecking useless after around 5K miles :(
very Very expensive, self levellers...:augie
Take them off [if they were fitted from new] and keep..
Otherwise Fleabay them

well I have done all I am going to do on the M/C for now. The only bit to come from Flatracer in the end was the seat. The first seat they sent was marked but it was replaced without a problem.
I will keep an eye out for a couple of black rocker covers and I expect I will get the wheels powder coated next winter, just have to find the time to get a few miles in now :)

Nice looking bike, you made the right choice.

Good to see a GSer with taste :thumb2

Ref Rocker cover, why don't you just get them powder coated.
