My laptop (Dell inspiron) has been playing up for a while - some of the error messages seemed to indicate Registry errors so I ran Ccleaner but it made no difference so I reinstalled XP home edition using the cd supplied with the computer XP with SP3 (French version). At some point in the installation it says it can't find a bunch of files and need the Service Pack 2 cd which I don't have so I bypass the files and when the installation is finished everything starts up as expected until it asks me to activate XP click yes - blank screen(original wallpaper photo). I've tried all the fixes listed on Microsoft support but nothing fixes it.
I can run windows in safe mode so I'm thinking I'll copy the files onto an external hard drive and then re-format.
Anyone suggest something else I could try. Thanks in advance for any replies
