thats the one.
just a quick look at the Micapeak model history thingy turned this up... the change happened in 1995 - with the true 'easy clean' revision in 98
Changes during model year 95
front suspension geometry revised; wheelbase increased 10mm (to stop ABS cutting in early)
original Akront chrome plated wheels changed to polished (but not lacquered) aluminum made by another supplier
low friction throttle cable with smoother action (especially at small openings)
and then the real improvement came in 98
Changes during model year 98
revised tank decals
new sidestand with larger foot
improved sidestand switch
aluminum wheels are now anodized
revised piston design - to reduce oil consumption
btw - you can find out the actual month/year of production by entering the last 7 digits of the VIN number on this site.

Wow, that Micapeek site has loads of good stuff on the 1100GS. Very useful indeed.
Does it list model changes for the 1150 as well? I can't see them. There's a possibility I would go for an 1150 if the right one came up at the right price...

Good stuff, although my rims are "polished, but not lacquered aluminium" made by Akront, so I'm not sure how that fits with the above?

No.. they don't - however as the 1150 was a mainly cosmetic revision of the 1100 that hardly matters. What really differentiates between the two bikes was the extra gear on the 1150.
the main changes over the years with the 1150 was single to twin spark. and the use of Servo assisted ABS (from 2002)
I think all other changes were purely cosmetic.
if yer woried about cleanin the wheels , blather em in wd40 or same type of poduct..
they clean up ok even in winter..
