Aomori and Hokkaido, Japan ride report, July 19-23

Thanks for that and welcome to the forums.
I'd love to tour Japan, I've been very interested in Japan and it's culture for a long time.

May I offer one criticism though? I'd like to see more of the scenery and less of the bike. I'm sure you're very proud of your bike but we all know what a 1200 looks like and Japan has some stunning landscapes that we seldom get to see over this side of the planet.

I look forward to your next ride report. :beerjug:

when I finish my court case I'm touring japan...:thumb2

cos there's heaps more to see...off and away from the express way....

Guy

Welcome to UKGSer, I see you are a long time member of Gaijin Riders - small world! My login has lapsed but I still like to lurk to see what the guys are up to.

Great write up, during the time I spent in Japan (a total of nearly eight years) a toured the majority of the country, but never managed to get up to the far North.

The 1150GSA that I bought from Fukuda came back to the UK with us.

I don't think my planned rides to Scotland will have the same photo potential as Hokkaido.

How did you find you were accepted when staying at Onsen? I know some Gaijin who've had poor experiences at Onsen and Ryokan, but I always found them to be welcoming and wonderful places to stay - it's the one thing the whole family we really miss about Japan!

Take care.

Aye I've still got post traumatic stress disorder from riding pillion in Toyko with you

Enjoyed reading that :thumb

How long have you been/lived in Tokyo?
Maybe if I shout a bit louder you'll be able to hear me ......

I've been in Tokyo for almost 10 years now. Rode a bike for the last 9 of those (got my first-ever bike license here), but only started going on long tours in about the past 3 or four years or so.

Put down the whip!

I hear you, but when I do a ride report, my bike's gonna be in a lot of the photos, if only to show that I rode to those places.

However, all is not lost. You can very easily find great photos of stunning Japanese landscapes without my bike in them by using Google. I just did a search for "Hokkaido landscapes" and this beautiful Flickr photo set came up as the top result:

That guy takes way better photos than I do, and there's not a single GS in sight! ;)

Next April we're doing a 3 island trip - western Honshu, Kyushu and Shikkoku in 10 days.
Drop me a line before you head out if you want some company... sounds like it'll be a heck of a ride!

Also, there are lots of biking tours and day rides going on here all the time.
A good forum to check for that sort of thing is http://www.gaijinriders.com/forum.php
