We have had at least two split second power outages this morning and now the above unit is now not seeing the battery. The PowerChute Business V7 software reports that the battery is disconnected.

I've checked the internal and external rear battery connections and both seem to be good and making connection. Used an electronic multimeter to check the battery >26v and the charge supply >27v. The attached server and backup PC are running fine off the utility power but I won't get the chance to make a controlled shutdown in the event of a power failure.

Is there an internal fuse that may have blown or something else relatively simple? Is it made in the USA junk?

I'm not sure about your APC unit, but we have 3 oldish UPS devices with fuses in the back, very easily removed on our devices.

Anyway you might want to email APC, they helped us out with a query on our out of warranty devices :)

Try removing and reinstalling the PowerChute software, it can get some funny ideas sometimes. Also, when circumstances permit, disconnect the UPS from its incoming supply, and see if it maintains a load. If it does then remove the load, turn the UPS off then on again and see if PowerChute is any happier.

Does the software control the LED's etc on the UPS or does it simply connect data from the unit?

I'll try all of your suggestions after close of business today. Interstingly all I've had from APC so far is an automated message to say that soemone will contact me in the next 24 hours.:augie

Switched off the mains supply, instant shut down of the load.

Have now uninstalled and reinstalled the PowerChute software. No difference.

Software just collects data as far as I know. If the LED is showing disconnected battery as well, yet the battery is present, connected and has a decent voltage, I'd guess something spiked the UPS circuit rather terminally.

I suspect you've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery already, so I think the unit needs repairing if under warranty, or replacing if not. Worth keeping the battery as a spare, although it will need the occasional charge.

Yeah as Shugie says, have you removed the blue-lead connecting the battery (have the unit off & disconnected from mains)? Its behind the front cover usually if this is the server-rack style like mine.
