Hi all,
anybody had any experience with the 30 gig ipod? ie probs with the hard drive, going wrong whilst used on a 1150 gsa motorcycle, thru vibration etc?
many thanks Paul

Should be o.k. if it's on your person.

Be careful to switch it off and lock it if you want to put it in your luggage, it doesn't take much of a touch to wake it out of sleep, and it wont last long if the disk is spinning.

Aha well yes...sort of.
I had a 4gb Ipod mini with the same style (although much smaller) hard drive. I hooked it up to my Autocom and mounted it under the seat with an Iclick remote control on the handlebars......................20 minutes it lasted before the vibration shook it to bits!
I've put a shuffle on my Crimbo list as it's got a hard state flash type memory and will somply clip to my handlebar pad.

Yes I have the 30Gb video iPod and use it a lot on the bike. Its fine most of the time, but does need the odd reset (think its select and menu or play together to reset), best to put it somewhere without too much vibration and it will be fine.

I've been using a 80gb iPod on my bike for a couple of years with no problems. I carry it in my jacket and there is considerable wisdom saying that a disc will not cope with the vibrations if hard mounted on the bike (although there is also wisdom saying it will!)

With solid state memory dropping all the time, why risk it.....HD's with moving parts are old technology love....don't go there ;)

(Creative Zen owner, also used in pocket but this is the third..would I get another HDD based MP3 player would I fekkity fekk!)

depends if you want it now. can you get bigger than 12Mb solid state? not enough IMHO.

thats it, bit the bullet

all done,30 gb hd based was obviously not the way to go, so i got this:

i took a 4gb down to southern spain without a hitch, this i think is more robust and smaller than the new nano imho.didnt want it for video either.
but the 4gb was a tad small for 7 days riding, i think the tunes went round twice, so the 8gb should crack it.
thanks lads nice one.:thumb2

Used a 20 Gig ipod for the last 3 years without any trouble. Morocco 4 times etc etc

Was having so many problems with the Zen bar mounted that I bought an 8G Nano. Don't like carrying stuff in my pockets :o
