Hi everyone i am looking some advice on Buying an Apple MacBook Laptop,There are 2 Apple Mac Book Laptops on Sale for £999.Apple Mac Book PRO ZOMT2B/A And an Apple Mac Book AIR MD231B/A.These are on sale at PCWORLD.The Laptop will be for my Daughter,She will be using it for Digital art with a Tablet and Photoshop etc.I have no experence with Apple Products apart from using an Ipad for about an Hour.Which Laptop would you think would be best suited or the better Deal.My Daughters Mother bought an Apple computer around christmas time and they are currently sharing it.Any pointers would be Great.Cheers Francis

Don't buy it from PC World for a start. If you buy from the Apple Shop you'll get a guaranteed up to the minute model and they'll set it up for you in the store (try going in mid-week when they have more time to help).

A Mac Book Pro is more than enough for most people. The Air is less powerful and more money, but it looks cooler and weighs less. It also has less connectivity.

If you go to the Apple website it explains it all quite simply :thumb

If she is at school/college/university buy from an Apple shop or website - they will give you a discount.

Thanks for taking the time to answer my quest for advice,Looks like the MacBook Pro is the one to go for .I will see if i can get to the Apple store this weekend.Once again thanks for the help.Cheers Francis:bow

MacBook Pro... The other thing you can do with the Pro is plug in an external monitor, keyboard & tablet.

You can still edit while using as a laptop but docking it to the keyboard & monitor makes it a lot easier to use. The large screen can then be used for the image editing and the laptop screen as the tool palette.

I'd also second getting it from a pukka Apple Store.

i wrestled with the pro v air choice myself. figured i didn't need the portability, so got a pro. TBH either would work for me, but pro is cheaper & is the most recently updated iirc.

basic i5 13" pro is everything i need. if i was doing video, i'd get an i7.

buy from apple - i bought from apple refub store and used the saving for apple care. both are discounted to students.

or

buy from john lewis for free 2 year warranty.

keep it in good nick and hang on to the packaging, and you should get a big chunk of the outlay back after 3 or 4 years :)

I chose the Pro because I still wanted a dvd drive.

Bought mine from John Lewis :thumb

Unless you are doing everything on a plane the pro is what you need. It's a bit short on ram to virtualise windows (if you need it) but everything cookie says is right.

It is the entry level latest non-retina 13" so they aren't punting you some 1 yr old one at pcworld.

Have a look and see if apple have a refurb. For a few days you might save a bit.

literally just installed 2 x 4GB RAM sticks in mine (Crucial-£38). the 4GB fitted previously seemed ok with Fusion + XP, but TBH i rarely, if ever used it for anything intensive.

the only use i currently have for windows is for BMW Reprom manuals :D

The new Pro's don't have dvd drives :eek

only the Retina models. more mundane models still have Superdrive but i can't imagine that the next gen will have them.

Retinas are gorgeous though, i played with one a couple of weeks ago. anyway, i've barely used the optical drive in my macbook.

Don't buy from PC World. Choose the model and then buy direct from the Apple website or in store. They are a p.o.p. to set up and as said you will get the latest model. As said she may qualify for student discount. Apple service is very very good IMO.
