As a recent convert to Apple, I need some help.

We've just bought a couple of Mac Mini's, which have been great until yesterday. One is a G4, and works fine. The other is an Intel model, which will no longer powers up. The light on the front no longer comes on, so nothing? The Mac wasn't being used at the time, I think it was in 'sleep'. It might have been 'off', then just wouldn't turn back on. Any ideas?

I've done the simple things, tried the fuse, and swapped power supplies with the G4, still nothing.

The G4 Mac only has an 85w power supply, will this power the Intel? The Intel power supply is 110w.

Apple Mac mini - no power on light

I'm overwhelmed with the amount of help I've had here.

It still doesn't work. However, I've now eliminated the power supply brick.

:nenau If I could help I would mate but never had that problem in all my years of Mac ownership. It must be the power supply if there is no light on the power switch

Have you tried pushing the on button for a longer period. (5 - 10 seconds)
Sometimes my Mac does the same, and doing this starts it up. :nenau

Apple are usually very good with customers, if you bought it from an apple shop barrel on down there with it.

Otherwise have a look here for step guide to troubleshooting mac mini power problems.

I've tried the power supply (brick) in our G4 Mac mini, and that works fine.

I've been on the net looking for solutions.

1. Unplug everything for 30 seconds. Then plug the power in whilst holding the on button, the press button again......... Nothing.

2. Press the on button for 10 seconds without any power, then try 1....... Nothing.

I'm running out of ideas. Looks like a trip to a 'Genius' is imminent.

I had the same thing with a Mac Mini a while back and it was the motherboard that had gone. More expensive to repair than to replace with a refurb unit which I got from these guys. Had excellent service from them and would thoroughly recommend them. As they are local I picked it up from them but I'm sure they would ship to you. If not I'll happily pick up and ship for you, they're just round the corner.

I'd give them a ring as they will be able to help you narrow down the fault - very knowledgeable guys.

Save a trip to keynes maybe

Hi,
sorry just found this. You are right about the Intel needing 110w.
the G4 will run on it but the intel one will not boot off the 85w brick!
You could always give these guys a shot for advice/spares, they are in town
and I have used em for spares a while back. It may be PSU but there is a small history of logic board fails that may be the prboblem :eek

Think they are still in business :)
