Apple Magic Mouse - worth it?

I've had a MacBook Pro for a couple of months and really like it (my first Mac).

However, good though the big track pad is, I miss a mouse for certain things (photo editing, anything requiring a lot of drag and drop etc). The wireless mouse I used to use with my PC actually works (a Microsoft wireless one with plug in usb dongle), however the Mac actually recognises it as a keyboard and says it won't work - if you dismiss the dialogue and just use it it's ok but the same thing happens after each sleep / wake up cycle so is a bit of a pain.

So, I've been thinking about getting another mouse. Apple being apple have just the one offering - the eye wateringly expensive Magic Mouse. I like the fact that it it's Bluetooth so doesn't tie up a USB port (why are apple so stingy with USB ports? Two on a £2200 top of the range laptop?!) but £60 for a mouse seems to be taking the p*ss ...

So, anyone use one and can tell me whether they are worth the ridiculous price or if there are any other high quality Bluetooth alternatives?

I have one and it has always been my favorite mouse.

Works fine with a macBook, but hardly at all with a MacPro. If I could get one to work with my MacPro I'd chuck my current Logitech Performance MX in a heartbeat

I used to use one but it ate batteries so I went back to the mouse with tail. I do have a trackpad as well though.

I bought one the other week as I couldn't get on with the trackpad although my mrs loves the trackpad.

I also bought the rechargeable apple batteries and charger as people moan about the time the batteries last.

I was told by apple that the Magic Mouse does not last long with Duracell batteries, energiser ones are better

I use ordinary recharables, although alkalines seemed to last pretty well.

Yes - really like mine. Gave the trackpad to the lad for the same reason - lots of drag n drop on it was a real pain.

Rechargeables used.

Hi, Got mine in December, only used one set of batteries. What people aren't telling you is how you can do many of the track pad finger movements on top of the mouse. Fantastic! Typical Apple. lol

Love the MagicMouse but couldn't get on with the TrackPad so sold that ...

Wouldn't be without the Mouse though

Based on the above, I've just gone out and bought one and I'm using it with my MacBook Pro now - thus far it seems really good - I like the touch interface on the top surface but might need to find some way of tweaking the sensitivity (if you can).

I'm still pretty sure it's not worth £60 but I guess it doesn't matter now

Yup ... and you can set it to 'two click' (left and right) as well

Already used system prefs / mouse to change acceleration and set right button click but couldn't find any way to change the sensitivity of the control surface though?

Just seen this thread, was going to say I have two so of you want one for.....oh, you've already bought one.

Have found mine work fine with ordinary rechargeable batteries for a decent while -have the rechargeable mat thing as well but it is rubbish.

I'm probably sucking eggs here but having a play around in the settings for the trackpad may get you back together

Academic now but. Like the Wacom pen tablets. Easier in the wrist than a mouse as well.
