Got one of these today, It belonged to my dad. I need to get it up and running, then sold. (money to my mum) My first problem it has a user name but i dont know the password, also need a little advise on what it is worth. Battery only seems to last 30 minutes. Comes with bag case and a charger, but not sure about anything else. nick 01869 346186.

... I guess it always asks for a User name? My G4 doesn't, unless I log off.
The Apple website is pretty useful.

Take out the battery and look for a serial number - It'll help you identify it.
Batteries are not hugely expensive - once you have the serial number you may be able to work out what battery you need if you want to replace it.

Is it white or aluminium?
What size is the screen 12", 15" or err.. that'll probably be it - I think 17" is unlikely.

All this will help identify it, so you'll be able to get a better idea as to value.

Finally, ditch your PC and stick with the MAC (unless you have a Garmin GPS, for the moment!).

update

Its ally and 15" screen, not sure if there are any discs, will check next weekend.. :thumb nick

sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but...If you haven't got the password, you cannot bypass the system by booting from the Disk Tools disk because the password is written to your drive at the driver level. Your only option is to take your PowerBook to an authorized Apple service center where a technician has the means to bypass the security on the system. You'll probably also be asked for proof of purchase...

As to how much it's worth, yo won't know that till you get it running and check which processor and how much ram the mac is running - prices vary according to model...

another update

I can use the thing, just cant change time, and things like that.

1 GH z 256 mb memory. system version mac OS 10.3.9
60gb hard drive
wireless card
last dash modem
ethernet
dvd
cpu type power pc g4 (1.1) does that help? regards nick

Nick, as a matter of interest, when you say you can use it, but can't change the passwd what do you mean exactly, how are you logging in?
