Applecross Run

Went out for a run to Applecross yesterday, weather was good and roads just awesome. Got to be one of the best runs in the country! Here are some pics of my run.

I'm hearing ya but Monday was out on bike, today shooting partridges....... will have to go to work sometime! Good weather forecast for rest of week and am planning away Friday afternoon on bike till Sunday. Work just gets in the way of quality riding time! Have a good run the morn.

thanks for posting the photo's - only been over applecross once & it was pouring with rain and thick fog at the top so didn't see anything of the view up there

can highly recommend the wigwams at the campsite when it's wet

Is that sunshine I see at the top of the pass? Last time I went over I couldn't see 5 feet in front of myself. Fortunately it was only the summit in cloud the rest of the run was fab! Nice pics!

Wow. Good photos. Almost wish I was back in Scotland. I was on the West coats two weeks ago and it never failed to rain everyday. Had a few glorious hours one day on a boat round the Gareloch though.

It's the A 896 then turn of at the Bealach na ba to Applecross you can't miss it, it's great fun.

I got married in Applecross. But that was then... Different woman and a BMW now!

Tbh not sure I understand what all the fuss is about with going to Applecross. Ok sitting outside the Applecross Inn with my mussels and haggis on toast was very lovely but the road never really floated my boat. Certainly wouldn't make my top ten Scottish roads....so what am I missing? Always happy to be educated by the more enlightened.

Been over the road several times myself. Not the particular climb over to Applecross, but the run getting there and onward has always been great - part of 'Roun Scotland coastal trip'.
Or maybe it's the nearest thing we have to alpine roads and we all secretly wish that's where we were......

I think thats the reason too, along with the view is a cracker. Applecross makes me feel so chilled out. I have been several times and just love sitting outside the pub or beach and looking out across the sea to the other islands.

The west coast in general is awesome - watching the sunset over Skye whilst sitting on the beach near Gairloch Youth Hostel a few year ago was very special. Hope it's as nice when we're up there for my wifes birthday in September (stopping in Plockton and Inveraray )

Yes I agree ,the Pass is a wee bit of fun and Applecross is stunning but the roads into and out of are fabulous ,was up that way on monday ,rained all the way from Glasgow to Fortbill after that i just got better and better,Tuesday was Fantastic Lochinver to Klyscue via Stoer Point was a treat as I had never travelled that road before it was awesome .Pic just north of Stoer

I think that Applecross' claim to fame come from the fact that it used to be the most isolated community on the UK mainland. Not sure if it still is.
Maybe not the best biking roads in the UK but still special.

'Extremely isolated, Applecross was only accessible by boat until the early 20th century, and for many years after that the only road access was over one of Scotland's most notoriously treacherous roads, the Bealach na Ba (‘Pass of the Cattle’), which crosses the peninsula and reaches a maximum height of 2053 ft (626 m), below the 774 m high Sgùrr a' Chaorachain. The settlement is now connected via a winding coastal road which travels around the edge of the peninsula to Shieldaig and Torridon. The road skirts the shore of the Inner Sound and Loch Torridon.'

It's a nice place to be, I loved it when I was up there the other month. The camp site there also has a restaurant/bar which serves up good grub
