My commuter bike is a Aprilia Pegaso 650 '01 and the rear shock is buggered.
Does anyone know where I may be able to get it rebuilt as this may be cheaper than buying another one?

Thanks

Try K-Tech in Coalville, Leicestershire.

I do seem to remeber that the units on some years of Aprilla Peggies were 'sealed for life' jobs, but I'm sure the lads at K-Tech will have all the info.

Ok, so the stock one isn't rebuildable.
I see that the Pegaso is almost the same as the BMW F650, does anyone know if the F650 shock will fit the Pegaso?

They may well fit, again ask the guys at K-Tech.
The issue with buying a usedcunits is that you won't really know it's history. Yoy could pay £100-£150 for something that fails in a week!

I'd look at something like a Hagon replacement which would run out at about £250-£275. Remember that this is an investment on your main commuting vehicle so it should be a wise investment.

I hear what you are saying, but not sure how much life there is in the bike as it has now done 33,000 (all by me), and the exhausts are starting to rot as well.

Shock rebuild

Hi Rob K,
I had bought a second hand nearly new ... :blagblah ... rear shock for my Dakar a few years ago. I put it on for my European trip last year, though it didn`t last the trip. :blast
Anyway I sent it off to a guy on ebay (Brooks Suspension) and he has fixed it, well I hope he has as it`s being posted back to me this week.

He charges under £100 so if thats what you can afford you could give him a try.

Hope this helps, Chris (Dakarnoway)

I have got a 2nd hand shock and when I pulled the old one out I discovered all the needle bearings were seized in the lower linkages and when I pulled out the rod pins all the needles fell out with a big pile of orange dust!
So gonna drop them into my local shop for all new bearings.
So maybe the old shock was fine after all, gonna refit it and see.

Had a close look at both ex tail pipes and they are rotten through and fell apart when I unbolted them so just bought some new akros off ebay cheaper than retail but still more than I was counting on :(

Also discovered rear wheel bearings need replacing so that is going in along with the linkages.

Once all back it should pass MOT :thumb2

Failed the MOT....
The new Remus (not akro - my fault) pipes where very very loud, and had 'for off road use only' stamped on them.
So I contacted the ebayer that sold them to me and he wasn't intersted in taking them back, so filed a paypal dispute and won - full refund :thumb2:thumb2
So, the bike is currently with a local exhuast company and they are grafting on a GS1200 silencer that I had going spare.
Will be picking it up this afternoon, can't wait to see what it looks and sounds like.
I will post some pics ASAP.
