Is anyone here using an Arai Astro-R with a closed face style (Starcom or Autocom) headset? I have a problem with this setup, and would like to know whether it's just me or whether others have experienced the same.

I've fitted the speakers and the microphone, managing to locate everything precisely as described for optimum results. Specifically, the dome mic is located directly in front of my mouth.

Every time I put the helmet on, or take it off, the foam cover on the mic scrapes my nose quite painfully. It's hard and abrasive enough to have scratched and now cut my skin. Obviously no use at all.

Whilst my fine roman nose isn't helping, I suspect that the design of the helmet is a major factor. The chin bar seems closer to my face than it is on other helmets that I have owned.

So;

1) Does anyone here use an Astro-R with a headset microphone?
2) If so, have you experienced the same problem?
3) Am I right in my observation about the closeness of the chin bar on an Astro-R?
4) Has anyone experienced this problem with other helmets?
5) ......or is it just me?

TIA

I use the astro-r with autocom.

I have no probs with the microphone, but the headphones scrape a touch, not too much to hassle me tho' :nenau

I use an Arai Astro J with a Starcom system but I don't seem to have the same problem as you. The foam covered, bubble shaped microphone does just touch my upper lip though but I have never found this to be a problem when donning or doffing the helmet. I own a regular size piggy shaped nose! :D

I also use and Astro J, I had to trim a bit of foam from the cheekpads to allow a decent fit to the speakers, otherwise they protruded too much and scratched my ears when putting the lid on. The microphone can be a pain at times as it can catch when fitting/removing the lid, plus the microphone cover has perished and fallen off.

I guess you just have to do your best to make it fit whatever lid you own, and experiment to get it set up for the best sound, mic position and vox settings.
