I ordered a new Arai Rebel helmet from Crossans. The helmet hasn't arrived yet but the, free, Arai Pro Shade visor did:

It's a little fiddly and I haven't tried it on the road yet, as the visor isn't for my old Arai, it's the rx7 / quantum / rebel size. i will have to wait for the Rebel to arrive before I can try it out.

Got a free one as well last week with a Quantum ST, its not the most user friendly bit of kit but it is secure and fine at speed

Can I ask did you get a Pinlock insert with it? Think they are meant to come with one but i had to use the one supplied with the original helmet

The helmet arrived at the weekend and I took a spin to Glenmalure today to test it. Typically Irish weather, 4 seasons in 3 hours, and I like both helmet and pro shade system. The helmet is quiet (although I always wear ear plugs), no buffeting, it pissed rain otw home and I flicked up the dark visor, no issues, no extra buffeting caused by the dark visor being raised.

It mightn't look great but it works... I'm happy with it. ymmv

Sorry but that looks like an afterthought.

Dave

Arai's reasoning is that the integral sun-visors (inside the helmet) create a void in the "padding" and so are less safe.

I just carry a spare visor as you can change them in seconds.

That's a "Pro-Shade" !!! :barf

After 4 or 5 Arai helmets and breaking a few of the side pods, I vowed I'd never buy another until they re-designed the visor mechanism, its ancient and time they justified their exorbitant prices with a complete re-design.

I've also used Shoei's over the years as well, going back to an early Wayne Gardner replica in the 90's, I've had 5 or 6 Shoei's so have had a good chance to compare both helmet brands and see how they have both evolved ( or not as in Arai's case :nenau ) and to my mind the mounting method, visor mechanism and visor on the Shoei's are light years ahead of Arai's.

I've currently got a Shoei XR1100 and a Neotec for touring, very happy with both.

Best helmet manufacturer in the world? - Shoei, no doubt about it :thumb

( Waits for incoming...:hide )

Have had a look at Shoei's today, they do look great

Bloke at work got his Pro shade today, seems pretty pleased with it. He's off to France next week, so I'm sure to hear about it on his return. I went off Arai helmets when I got my X-lite, everything about it seems better. :nenau

Well I'm in the opposite camp in that I am an Arai man. Tried a few others but ultimately the Arai is the one which suits me best.
