Arai Quality?

After seeing lots of comments about the Tour - X I finally bought one. It's light, comfortable, shades my very light sensitive eyes nicely & is reasonably quiet with my Tobinated GSA screen.

BUT

In three weeks I've had two parts failures on it:-

Firstly one of the intake vents broke, Arai sent a new one to the dealer for fitting - sorted.

Yesterday when I removed the visor one of the little "widgets" that the visor pivots in was broken. The manual says these can be removed for cleaning but Arai technical says it will have to go back to them for repair.

Now I know I should demand a replacement helmet, trouble is they now only make the plain colours white, black & blue & this one is the "storm silver" which looks really good with my silver GSA (white aluminium I know before someone gets pedantic)

Anyone else out there had quality problems with Arai or this model in particular? Bit peed off after spending nearly 300 squids on a "quality" piece of kit.

I have a broken vent on the top of my tour-X,it just kind of stays half open/half closed,it's been broken about 6 months,I didn't realise they could be replaced without sending the lid back to Arai-maybe I'll order a replacement.
Oh-and the catch to open and close the chinbar air vent snapped off over a year ago,that is a factory replacement job I'm told,but as there is another control for this vent on the inside of the lid I use that.
I don't find it particularly quiet but my previous lid was a Roof RO10 (one of the quietest by all accounts) so maybe that's not a fair comparison.
I do find the Tour-X comfortable though,and it's quiet enough with custom ear plugs,the peak and visor system works well.
I've had this lid over 2 years now and the only problems I've had are the vents mentioned above,I wouldn't swap it for any other lid-Yet! I'm waiting to see the new BMW off road lid in the flesh

I've had no probs at all with my Tour-X in 2.5 years of daily use.

The good news is that Infinity or a similar Arai retailer will have plenty of spares and a trained bloke to fix it for you.

My mate had problems with his Arai ( not the moto x type) It was the fixture that the removable lining attaches to, it was rubbing his ear. In the end he pulled this out. It was not made very well, as the part itself would be best described as cotton reel shaped, the polystyrene had only adhered to a very small section. So it was obviouslyt faulty in the first place. He bought the helmet from a bike show, dealer in Stevenage, they sent the helmet back to Arai who would do nothing. Apparently they said it was a regular scam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have had my Tour cross for almost 2 years ,used it through the winter and for off roading,its been used for about 30,000 miles. The only fault that I have had with the helmet was the chin strap started to fray.
Arai replaced the strap a few weeks ago free of charge.
When the helmet came back it had been cleaned inside and out.... Thats what i call a great service

I have an Arai Astro J, but Arai often use the same shell for their lids and alter the internal design and the venting system. Its my third Arai and I've always been pleased, but one of the bits for removing the visor snapped after six months on this one. Been too lazy to replace it as its not bothering me right now.

I have a mate in the bike accessories trade and he has told me that Arai have not revamped their shell design for a while now and, as a result, have actually been knocked off the top spot by the likes of Shoei and Suomy, who have been runners up in recent years.

Shame really coz I like the look and they've always impressed up until now. I'll think long and hard next time I replace my lid.

Normally it's not bad at all but yesterday in some quite severe crosswinds it was feck awful - begining to think I've made an expensive mistake . Surely the other folks who seem to rate them must have noticed this.

Anyone fancy a cheap, 3 week old, as new (once Arai have replaced the visor fitting) Tour -X, size medium - would be great for off road - seriously anyone like to make me an offer - of money that is

I don't find the peak a problem,but after 2 years+ maybe I'm used to it
The only time the wind can catch the peak is when doing "lifesavers" at speed and even then it's not severe,but as I said I maybe used to it and subconciously "brace" myself when moving my head into the airstream

And as all IAM riders know, you shouldn't be doing lifesavers at speed, your mirrors should be doing the job! Thanks for the info Hummers, i'll ring Andy tomorrow. If no joy it'll be a black one for £239 and some rather nifty stickers!!!
Piss takes aside, i've never experienced problems with the wind hitting the peak, but then... i've got a tough neck!

And if you had been, you'd have observed the approach of the scooby... in your mirrors!!!

Anyway, all said and done, if you're unhappy with any situation a lifesaver's always handy, but if you've been keeping good observation you'll hardly ever require the need of one!
