Arai Tour X question...

I wore my new Tour X last night for the first time

Coming home this morning it was -4 and my forehead nearly got frostbite

I realised the draft was coming from under the chin piece.

Is there something you can get to stop the chill coming up under the chin piece?

My Caberg Justisimo has one and it's very warm and no drafts come up.... or is the Tour X a summer lid only

I use one of those Foggerty neoprene things that seems to stop it completely, but you will be glad of the draft to stop the misting up.

I use and Oxford Huff in mine. I find it more comfortable than the Respro Foggy. It has a chin curtain which turns it into a very effective winter helmet.

I thought it was an offroad helmet, I use a ARIA Condor for the road.

You thought wrong. If you must classify it, it's a dual-sport / multi-purpose helmet. It's too heavy and luxurious to be considered a pure off-road helmet.

Well i suppose to a point yes but.... As Schtum said I thought it was a dual purpose lid. I am very happy with the Justissimo for all year round use but do like the look of the Tour x and have held off getting one for six months now but the fashion bug is a strong pull you know

Sorry, I thought wrong, I shouldn`t classify it, you are so so wright, Its far too heavy and luxurious to be considered a pure off-road helmet.

www.arai.com shows the TOUR X under multi-purpose and offroad.

Anyway what do I know I kept my 1150 and never bought a 1200 lightweight offroad multi-purpose GS.

Aslo for ARAI Condor great offroad helmet used it for years, only had a TOUR X two weeks now.

This is a problem I've always had with my Tour X, very drafty and cold. Dropped a Foggy in which has made a difference but still drafty enough to make my eyes water. Had the snow blasting through it today. May have to get the RX7 out again!

Firstly.... yes the visor was closed

I will try Schtums suggestion of the Oxford Huff... but i'm not paying £5 postage for a £12 part to be posted will try and pick one up.

Dirtydog.... Looking at the design I suppose it's always going to be a drafty lid but then again it is blo0dy cold at the moment. If the Huff dosen't do the trick I will carry on with the Justissimo till it warms up a tad...... then I can look cool again

I don't use my Tour-x in the winter.....it IS too cold.

How can anyone possibly think that something with a gaping hole under the chin is going to be a sensible thing to wear in -3 degrees riding on the road at spped??

There are definately some over defensive answers popping up as well......c'mon, get real, the Tour-x is a good lid, it looks good and it works well, but it's a three season lid unless you're stupid or are prepared to suffer/pay for other protection in order to maintain the looks.

No, I don't agree. Even in the middle of a Scottish winter, riding through snow and ice, with a Coolmax balaclava and an Oxford Huff in my Tour X, I've been as warm and draught free as I would be in my Arai Signet. It's not quite as good as my Suomy in the draught-free stakes but it's pretty good. The Oxford Huff has a chin curtain which makes a considerable difference. My Tour X is the Motard model which has an extra vent but, as in the base model, it's possible to close all the vents. Also, the Tour X's peak is a godsend when riding into a low winter sun.

Oh Charlie, I really want to be like you and Ewein, so I have bought a helmet just like you, I have also got 15 people following me to work, filming my every move.

I also have a bike just like yours, and the dealers said one day you can fore fill your dream and stop work for 3 months and go around the world, but your helmet my get a little cold in the Polar reguions.

Problems with wind !

The Tour X looks great and will hopefully be a great summer helmet, I've only used mine for a trip along the M62 in freezing conditions and found it to be the worst helmet I've ever worn. It was seriously cold but I excpected that, the real problem was that the crosswinds over Saddleworth Moor caught the peak so severely that my neck was hurting for days afterwards, I even pulled into the services to remove the peak but found that it's not as simple as that and that you need aditional parts to ride without the peak.
All that said , I'll keep it and use it for short journeys in summer but I wouldn't tour in it, my RX7 is a far superior helmet.

If I'd paid full price for it, I'd of thrown it back at them but it was only £100 off Ebay so I can live with it's limited use.

Just my opinion.
