Arai Tour-X

I’ve just acquired a new Arai Tour-X with the intention of using the visor in winter, goggles in summer. Can anyone recommend a suitable make and model of goggles? Some of the Oakley stuff looks very nice but oh so expensive. Where’s the best place to go?

Two other things worth noting:

1 You can use goggles and a visor at the same time. I often have a black visor fitted which I can lower over the goggles if the day gets too bright.

2 A Tour X is a bit of a draughty device in winter. An Oxford Huff remedies this very effectively.

Why use goggles when the visor does the job and gives better visability? Ive had my Tour-X for a few months and used it for the road trials and Enduro practise with out problems just curious.

The visor certainly allows greater peripheral vision than goggles. However, it can be nice to use goggles when it's warm as the cooling breeze can then be felt. Also, as you'll be aware, changing visors on the Tour X is not a quick job. I therefore find it useful to carry a pair of goggles for low light conditions when I have my black visor fitted.

Same as Schtum. Clear Scott goggles which are nice and flexible with dark visor for sun. The additional beauty of goggles is that the lenses cost £2 to replace and with the lenses being nearer your eyes,makes for better vision in rain and don't fog up. Especially so given that the visor on the TX is so far away from your face.

. . .goggles, a plus & a minus - Plus = no misting, Minus = less easy to do the life saver becoz of restricted peripheral vision.

any recommendation of goggles suitables for use with glasses? (O.K., then spectacles)

I used to use Scott OTGs on my Tour X to get over glasses, however the arai has a smaller face hole (!?) than most enduro helmets therefore the OTGs didnt quite fit and pressed down on my boatrace more than was comfortable. By careful glasses selection ie no wide arm fittings, nor deep lenses I can get the Oakley std enduro gogs over my optical gogs.
Your face shape plays a big part in this so you may need to try b4 u buy.

PPS I found the visor worse than gogs in the winter due to it misting easily so now use the gogs with a fog shield and that seems to help keep the worst of the cold air/rain at bay. Though the wind noise tells me a should use ear plugs as its LOUD
