Arai Tour X4 helmet

I like my X4, wore it for a number of 10 hour days last summer when I was touring Eastern Europe and didn't have any hint of a headache but the peak is a bit flimsy and can start to wobble if you get a move on.

I know the biggest factor is screen position but I've always found that if it's raining I only need to turn my head a small amount to clear the visor and no water runs down the inside which makes a pleasant change from a lot of crash helmets I've owned in the past.

Had my Arai Tour X3 LWD nicked in Ibiza in September, was really gutted have been trying to get an exact replacement via ebay but haven't seen one my size since.

Decided on the BMW Carbon GS Enduro helmet got a great deal for the display one at the local dealers.

Its much lighter has a great field of vision its much quieter than the Arai so much so I'm no longer wearing ear plugs.
Good venting, It also comes in some nice colour schemes although mine is plain white which retails at £400 the coloured ones are £450.

Comes with pinlock fitted and cut outs for speakers. The visor is not as good as the Arai.

Very pleased with it. Only minor moan the screen tends to slam shut on the final closing which because the shell is carbon it's quite loud and slightly annoying but would not dissuade me from getting another.

I have just replaced my first tourx4 with.......another.

Tried the shoei and it fitted well, but the trust Arai just pipped it to the post.

I don't find it noisy, but I wear ear bud headphones so music is loud and clear.

The new pinlock needed to be filed down a touch at the mounting cut outs for it to fit properly, but it is 100% perfect at staying fog free even in -2 degrees.

I find them a very good helmet but the interior can look shabby within a year especially if you sport manly face stubble.

Vent brilliantly, all day comfy for me and spares are easy to obtain if you do break a vent (quite likely as they do crack fairly easily and the front vent switch broke twice on my last one).

I wouldn't pay £500 for one but got mine for £330 sovs from the bike show.

Good point, venting on the Hornet Adv is appalling

Tour X4 is miles ahead on that front

I've go my x4 for more then two years now. It's very comfortable and stylish as well as very noisy and very annoying with poor pinlock position- its impossible to get it sealed all way round. To annoing for £500 lid. Would not to buy again

Funny that my old style pinlock on my previous tourx4, and my new style pinlock on my new helmet, both seal perfectly. Could it be you? The old style needed nothing more than correct adjustment, the new one needed filing at the cut outs a very small amount.

I've given up with Pinlocks now..................I just don't think they work sufficiently well to be a huge benefit

I just crack the visor open now

Thanks all very much for your informed input..:beerjug:

I have ordered the Arai Tour (as pictured) and it should arrive tomorrow ready for the weekend. :bounce1

Mine work pretty well but .... once they're set I never touch them and I clean the inside of my visor like it's made of new born babies eyes :D

Make sure your two little arrows on the actual pins are always pointed in (adjust with tiny screwdriver). One of my lids the pinlock used to work loose over time and Ive carefully stuck a neat bit of sellotape along the bottom keeping it stuck down. Works a treat and you can't actually see the sellotape.

years ago (like donkeys years ago) I trained Mark Blundell - former F1 driver. He brought a car racing lid with him that had a double glazed visor. It was probably about 3mm thick with a 1mm completely sealed air gap. All one moulded unit. It seemed a brilliant idea .... why the feck don't they make them for bikes ??!

Could you please share pic how did you file this pinlock.
Thanks in advance.

I had the same issue when it turned up. Just gphad to take a tiny bit out of each side. Fits perfectly now. Thanks for posting this comment, a great bit of advice. :thumb2 :beerjug:

Can't post a pic, but it's the little cut outs in the pinlock visor where it connects with the pin in the visor. On my pinlock I couldn't quite get it to drop flush with the visor as the pinlock was too long. A little relief filing of the cut outs allowed the pinlock to sit absolutely flush and connect to the visor all the way around.

- 2 and I get a bit of condensation at the bottom of the pinlock but 100% clear vision where I need it. I love pinlock, just need to take the time to set them up correctly.

Arai Tour x4

I just bought an Arai Tour X4 for you ADV 1200GS and made a big mistake. I always owned shoei x spirit helmets and it worked perfectly but like you thought the look would be better ( how vain am I ). Noisy, vibrates in the turbulence. worn it 3 times, back in the box and out comes the Shoei x spirit.
My friend had the BMW endure lid and recommends it but personally I cant comment

Thought the same about my Schuberth E1 but I moved the beak to almost out of view and now all the buffetting has gone.
