Arctic circle 25

Great write up of a very similar route to one my lad and I followed a couple of years ago. We met in Hamburg as he lives in Chamonix and I used the Hull-Rotterdam ferry. We had a night in Hamburg before the Kiel-Oslo ferry. We were away for three weeks.
Cheers Glenn.
17 days for us, extra few days would have made a difference.👍🏻

I am trying to figure out where you went wrong on your trip Bergen-Kongsberg?

Anyhoo, come back again because you missed out on some of the best bits Western Norway has to offer.

You can ship your Bike Immingham-Bergen for about £200,takes 36 hours or you could pick it up from Kristiansand or Stavanger. You just need to make a business account at Bring.no

Hi Norsk,
I’m guessing you mean what went wrong on the route from Bergen to Kongsberg.
I’ve genuinely no idea what happened other than the route in had saved in the Nav 6 appeared as I wanted it but the minute I pressed go it rerouted. I particularly wanted to go through the tunnel with the roundabout but had not put this in as a waypoint. Nav pushed me another route.
Nav took me to the Torvikbiyg to Jondal ferry , i wanted to go north through Alvik to the Hardangerbrua bridge. Is that what you meant?
I’ll be honest, another factor may have been that I was absolutely shattered that day.

Yes agree, I’d definitely like to come back. Even before the trip I as aware the was another Norway trip we could do without re running routes we’d already done.
I’d have no problem convincing my wife, she’s still buzzing from the trip.

Great photos and a cracking write up. Great tip around Home hotels including dinner. Mrs M wants to cover a similar route on four wheels next year, so I'll have a look at those, thanks!

Thanks for posting that trip report I've never been up as far as the Lofotens. It looks fantastic. Since you missed the heavy water plant at Rjukan the Ray Mears book, "The Real Hero's of Telemark" about the Norwegian Commandos sent to destroy it , is worth a look.(y)

Thanks guys.

I think if I were to do it on 4 wheels I’d be tempted by a camper.( or are they 6)
Some of the locations we saw people parked up were incredible.
Each to their own though.
Home hotels we stayed in were all good. As well as the meal they have free tea and coffee and between 5-6 free cake. Only got that once as we kept missing it. ( Misses reminds me) One more tip, if you’re doing it, book early, especially for Lofoton. Even if on booking.com and free cancellation if you change your mind. I looked a couple of weeks before we left and a few of the hotels were triple what we paid.

I’ll have to check that out before next time 😉👍🏻

I see

The guy in the ferry was probably a guy called Odin, he is a biker too.Sounds like that Sat nav wanted to take the scenic route to Kongsberg, which didn't include the big bridge which costs cars a fortune.

You won't be getting any fines because Norwegian traffic cameras only record the vehicles front.

As others have already stated ... great write up and good piccies too. Looks like you had a super trip despite the long days. Thank you for taking the time to post.
