Ardennes 10 July - 13 July

I would be in but I will be on a canal boat heading towards Chester.

Richard's trips are always great :thumb2

Wish I was going :tears

I'd love to, but I need permission from the Mrs. As I'm in Århus in Denamrk, I won't get to discuss this until back at the weekend.

Is it all bike stuff or will there be any investigation of any battlefields?

I have been to Århus to see Arla Foods. :thumb2

Look forward to hearing if you can make it.

Had intended to ride the bike but we have two full days, so if anyone wants to go off and do their own thing(s) it can still work.

Littered with Battle of the Bulge sites etc.

Richard, Would have joined you for this but I'm down in Perigueux area for pals wedding.
Next time.
Kevin :thumb

Richard, nothing going on at work for those dates. So it's a go for me.:thumb2

What have you got in mind for Hotel/B&B?
Will book train as soon as you let me know which one, that's of course you want to meet up at folkstone and not down at Boullion.

Looking forward to it already.

David.

I'm working I'm afraid, otherwise Rosy and I would have been up for it. Enjoy!!

Well let me know how it goes. Bastogne is a favourate little haunt of mine. If you're looking for a nuce route, up through Montherme is fantastic

I might see you at the Chunnel, I am heading that way to do the top 20 Alpine passes

You can't put a post like that up without specifying which passes, so we can all chime in with "No, that pass is awful" and "What? You're not doing the fantastic Passo della Umitavaccia?"

The road to the east of Montherme, through Bohan or Rohan or something, is incredibly pretty.

Anyway, Wapping old chap, my personal and domestic situation is rather fraught at the moment. I have a week in SW France coming up, but a long weekend shortly after might be just the thing by way of a wind-down! Can I keep it in mind as a possible maybe, and let you know (even) closer to the date?

I wish I could, love the Ardennes but my away day vouchers off the missus are used up already for this year :blast Have a good one anyway :thumb2

This isn't me is it?!? I'm sure I'd have remembered... :D

It seems he's otherwise engaged. He works for Saga, like 50% of the population of Folkestone, and is off on a jolly to the Med. I never get a look in if there's something involving sailors going on.

So, if you are free on the 9th of June the opportunity is there...

So, I will firm my interest to a definite for the Bouillon trip, plus I will bugger off somewhere else for a few more days afterwards. Taking the Route des Cretes to my mates place near Waldighofen in Alsace maybe. Probably head back north then via Ballon d'Alsace for a final night in/near Reims. The mate is quite used to random people from the internet arriving, so if anyone else fancies coming along, I will make enquiries.

Update of my plans:

I'm out of luck with mates for this trip. Alsacien mate is working away from home that week (he works for a Swiss based pharma multi-national).

Therefore, looking at other threads, the Hotel Col de Bussang has been recommended and I have booked in there for 3 nights to give 2 full days to explore the Vosges region around there. I passed through last year and there are some great roads to explore.

On the way back I will stop for 1 night, maybe Reims or thereabouts.

Train all booked and looking forward to the 4 days away on the bike. Although it did cost me a week in Greece for the wife, leaving on Monday.
I suppose, once I am on the beach I won't be complaining.

Are there still places on this trip. If so, do you know where you are staying and the hotel price etc?

It's open invite, so yes there are places, subject to accommodation being available.

Wapping will be along shortly to advise if there are spaces in the Bouillon hotel. There are other hotels nearby anyway.

A tunnel crossing is about £40 if you are going for the weekend. £70 if you are going for the week.

You are welcome to join me on the second part of the trip - at the moment I am travelling solo. I've booked in for 3 nights half board at http://www.coldebussang.com/en/accueil.htm - I have a single room as I snore like a hippo with rhinitis. 1 night in the Mercure in Reims Centre (50% deal at the moment) on the way back.

You are more than welcome to come along.:thumb2

I think it's only myself and Richard (Wapping) going, so plenty of room.

Train 08:42 out and the 15:20 back.

That's the 10th to the 13th July.

Richard has the hotel details, he will be here soon.

Hoping to make this one myself but can't confirm until Monday due to a clash with work and also my daughters graduation that week. went last year on this trip with Richard and it was excellent.

OK, listen up.

I have definites and rooms booked for:

Wapping

Worthing Welsh

Wessie

===

I have interest from:

Trancey

Brian Maslen (welcome again, Brian) We will probably ride the same roads as I went on last time, but take a different route to get to Bouillon on day one.

cheesysalesman, via PM

I will check with the hotel tomorrow how many rooms they have spare. If it's full I can maybe rustle something else up in the town.

====

Staying at La Poste hotel, Bouillon. http://www.hotelposte.be/ stayed there several times before and it's OK. good garage etc.

Cost?

Train is, today, looking like GBP 57 return.

Rooms, when I booked:

Single room: EUR 65 inc. a very good breakfast per night

Twin: EUR 98 per night inc. a very good breakfast per night

We can eat out in several pretty reasonably priced restaurants (touristy type spagbog / pizza etc).

Beer? It's a touristy town, so maybe not the cheapest around but there is enough small bars around.

Fuel? The usual cost for a four day jaunt.

Cheers,

Richard

Richard,

Beer was 3.40 euros a pint :thumb2 bar opposite to the right was open with my favorite barmaid, tried a few new bars ( dont drink mystic ) we got some funny drinks and meals without your french speaking, even got 3 full plates of cheese which we thought were chessy topped chips :augie (in our normal eating place )

new restaurant to the right, almost next to the above bar, really really nice food and very reasonably priced.

As per my previous post, i thought i didnt arrive back until the 10th July but my tickets just arrived today and im back on 3rd. depending on your numbers and work i may be able to come ( as long as worthing welsh doesnt drink ) :D

I even have a new route to look at if your interested from Bouillon to Verdun and back :thumb2
