After the announcement of the revised 08 models there was a fair bit of debate on here about whether to go with the 'well sorted' 07 or to pay the extra for a new 08.

From the postings I see here, it looks like going for the 07 was a better bet.:thumb

I tend to agree with you on the 07. From reading posts on varies forums the 08 are causing some problems. my tickeys worth. Oh I have a 07 and "touch wood" still no problems to rant about.:)

I'd never buy new anyway.
Let someone else run it in, have the minor niggles fixed and loose a fortune for you.

Don't know about 08 bikes but i had my first GS1200 on a 55 plate & had a nightmare with it:eek: BMW then replaced it with a 07 model free of charge to date it has been faultless after 7000 miles touch wood :beerjug:anyway older model looks far better:thumb:thumb:thumb best advice i can give keep it basic as for extras less to go wrong

Fer feckssake:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

They are machines.

They sometimes go wrong.

Sometimes.

1100, 1150's 1200's they all MIGHT pack in.

Get over it and stop effing whinging.

I feel so much better now- thanks:D

FWIW, i had my first GS1200 on a 55 plate... and I've still got it, 13k and no probs (touch wood).

Wully's got it about right:

Just get what seems right for you, don't obsess about people's previous issues... there's always going to be the odd lemon, just hope yours isn't it. If it is then it'll be a pain, but you'll deal with it. Just enjoy the ride. :rob

'08 extras

To me the question can be broken down to:
- is the '07 or the '08 more reliable, given basically the same config on both.
- if you want the new nice goodies like enduro ESA, are you willing to accept some issues due to the fact that in general - all systems can fail and more systems means more things do that - and new systems like the enduro ESA are more prone to failure than older time proven solutions...

BTW had 28K on my ' ADV 07 - only problem was front brake disc, now 6K on my '08 ADV and have the campaign issues - but have not encountered any practical/real problems.

:)

Most of the issues were sorted out by 07 - One thing to consider is that you'd probably get a 1000 or so mile, mint fully loaded 07 for about 3k less than an 08 with toys - and...no waiting. Call about the dealers and try Alan at John Clark Tayside in Dundee (I bought one last year)
:thumb2

07 gsa,4000 miles, no probs....................yet! Bought secondhand, 12 months bmw warranty, fully loaded, can do without the suspension gizmo.

Absolutely, my days of being an "Early adopter" are over, unless it costs me less than £100, then I'm prepared to take a punt!

Reliability

I had my 1200GS in 2004 and it had the ABS/servo brakes etc;etc; but somehow it never gave any trouble. I put that down to the careful preparation and subsequent maintenance by the dealer. I am shortly getting a new model and look forward to another four faultless years!
