Are BMW having my trousers down

Does beg the question do you really want a BMW if that's what it's going to be worth in 3 years
But do you want a Honda, are you buying a price or a bike..............

Instead of Honda trade it against a Vstrom.
Great bikes.

I ‘would like’ a new GS and ordinarily wouldn’t have looked anywhere else. What the dealer has prompted is for me to look elsewhere including alternative BMW dealers, like most people I want the best deal for me. I won’t buy a Honda (or any other brand) if I don’t like it, I will just stick with what I’ve got.

Try at least another couple of dealers. Then you’ll have an idea as to how low they’ve pitched the trade in. It is, as others have said, perhaps the wrong time of year to trade. Bizarrely you might be better waiting until later when they’re trying to shift outstanding old model stock.

Last year, for example, several dealers were heavily discounting pre registered bikes around October/November and BMW centrally quietly offered a considerable discount to dealers on some 2017 models.

You have a offer for your bike. Now shop around. Thats what I did. First dealer came uo 3k. JJH

Have you tried selling it for cash to an independent dealer? Or maybe trade in for a nearly new bike at an independent.

I needed to sell my Explorer as I just was not enjoying riding it - well riding it was okay but moving it around with a wonky hip was not comfortable.

I was offered a similar trade in by a BMW dealer & Triumph dealer. I then went to a local independent, Completely Motorbikes near Staverton, and did a deal on a used BMW S1000XR. They valued my Explorer at a higher value and were selling the XR at a much lower price than a BMW dealer. They operate on much lower margins per bike as they do not have to carry the BMW infrastructure. Of course, I did not get a BMW warranty on the bike but I have a bike I like to ride and is a piece of piss to move around the garage.

Hi Greg in Lancashire we have Jeffries, Chester Motorrad, Preston Motorrad plus Williams Manchester. Clean your bike up and have a tour of lancs.

As stated above Oct heralds a new sales quarter, conversely the end of Sept there maybe manufacturers incentives to move new bikes, which ultimately determines the “ cost to change” . If you head over to Jeffries you can visit a Honda/ Ducati/ Triumph and BMW dealerships within one mile of each other!

Just swapped my 2016 GSA the in for new GS exclusive tried 3 dealers £1800 difference between worst and best deal on same bike , try another dealer

So I thought I’d have a look at getting trying to get a deal on a new GS before the new model is launched. Spoke with my local dealer and they have offered me what i think is an insult at £7.8k for my bike against a new GS Exclusive. My bike is 2015 GS TE with 17k, FBMWSH, engine bars, spot lights and in good condition. Honda on the other hand have offered me 9k against either an Africa Twin or Crosstourer and Im seriously considering it however, I am yet to ride either of the Hondas in anger and realise that I may end up disappointed after the GS.

Am I being a little delusional in expecting nearer the 9k from BMW?

Greg, I got 9.7k trade in on my 30,000 mile, 2014 GSA in March, and £800 discount on the Rallye GSA with TFT display with first service included (you know which dealer ;) ). I felt I got a good deal at the time, and suspect the salesman cocked up on the trade-in price. Throughout the year deals do change, it is worth trying other dealers, check out Williams and Jeffries (assuming you went to Bowkers). Try in two weeks, it'll be the end of the 3rd quarter and they may be looking to close deals to meet targets.

It's also worth trying Park Lane, via the IAM, to see if they can beat the local deals.

Wessie has a good point - try some of the independents see if they'll buy off you, try Shorrocks in particular.

Who was best and worst? the Exclusive is what I was quoted on at Bowkers

How do you rate the Africa Twin compared to the GS?

Loving the dct box, did 'the old coach road' in the lakes today. Came off, managed to pick it up before my mates caught up with me. Couldn't have done that with the GSA. No damage.
Finding it comfortable, managed to keep up with mates on 1290 ktm and 1200 GSA alright.

Overall I'm happy with it. To me the BMW feels a more premium bike, but not to the extent of the price difference. Especially when I got an ex demonstrator with 1700 miles on at a saving of 3k off the new price.

Try getting a value from "we buy any bike" tp get a comparative value.....you will spend the next 2 months trying to get rid of them....but they will give you a fair indication of the trade in value of your bike.

I don't think the trade is a bad price, I sold mine about 5 months ago and it was similar to yours, I only got around 8700 private, and got offered similar money to your offer from BMW - but admittedly not against a new bike.

Just before I sold mine I spoke to these guys and they had offered me just a few hundred less than my private sale, so it may be worth having a word with them, I thought they offered me a good price for a dealer and their not far from you: https://www.shorrocks.co.uk/

Good luck.
