Hello, does anybody uses the plastic protectors for the engine ???

Are they a good value ??

I had a 5mph off and they protected the engine and remained intact. Whether you think that is worth £95 - well thats up to you I guess.

Here in Greece they cost 92 euros !

I believe it's worth !!

I think they are crap !!

Laid my bike down one day and one of them split - MBW wanted £35 for a replacemnt. Didn't want to keep replacing them so I looked for an alternative.

So I went to Touratech and bought these engione guards - they will protect and will "bend" back into place if required. Cost about £75 fort he pair I think. Try here http://www.touratech.de/shop_uk/enter.html - part number is 01-051-0508-0.

Dropped my bike at about 10MPH going down a hilly dirt road, the RH BMW cylinder protector broke into 5 parts and the cylinder head was left badly scored!

My opinion is that the BMW cylinder protectors are too brittle for the job, not like the GS1100's.

Hi my mate fell of his 1200gs on sunday at about 15 mph and his head protectors disintergrated, his heads where gouged to hell, so I feel they are useless.
IMHO Stanton Guards are the only ones to use but have heard they are not available yet , but may be very soon

If they have the same design philosophy as the 1150 head guards, then I'm pretty sure they are intended to protect the rocker cover in a stationary drop. They are sacrificial (ie one use only) and meant to stop the covers being holed, so that you can continue your journey.

If you want to protect the cosmetic appearance, you'll be better off fitting some form of crashbar.

Mike:)

The TT guards certainly work on the 1150. Mine had 'a bit of abuse' saving my covers.
I straightened them out the next day. ready for another pounding.

I dropped mine after hitting some black ice at about 15mph. The guard split but protected the cover behind it so it does work.....but there are scratches on the cover by the plug cap where it went over further than the bit the cover protects.

I ordered a new one from MotorWorks, excellent service, ordered last week, arrived today. The odd thing is that they cost £48 for a pair but £33 for one

I was going to buy H&B protectors but they cost £100 and a new rocker cover is £102, so there's not much in it in cost terms. The best advice is, don't drop it.

Bear in mind that if you do drop it you may well find yourself having to replace more than just the cover. I hit black ice or diesel on a roundabout at about 20mph, the head protector disintegrated and the cover and associated bits cost nearly three hundred quid - that makes the bars seem more attractive.

hmm....now i am really confused !!!

they look nice though, better than the bars..

About effectiveness now,it seems it depends on the way u fall??

let's hope we do not fall at all !!

any other link for protection bars ???

or other photo and opinions about the touratech aluminium protectors ??

I have the TT ones on my bike. Anodised them black so they don't stand out so much visually. Bikes been over on them. Taken together with the OE BMW Adv bars they did the job!

When I had my 10MPH dirt road spill, BMW crashbars were also fitted, the BMW cylinder head protector seems to be a hit and miss affair in an accident, in my opinion more hit than miss!

about the touratech,it is better but does it holds the temp of the engine high ?? Because it should be a problem if this happens

and somthing more.if the bmw protectors touch the engine, they will do less damage to the engine, than the one that the alumiun units will do, am i correct here ???

any opinions??

There is no increase in engine temp and the TT protectors have rubber buffers inside between the alli and the rover cover.

these are good news..

So if something happens, the guard does not scratch the cylinder,am i correct ??

Nice one then

;)
