Are the Chinese going to take over the bike market ?

Ever the contrarian……….until you get bored and come back to the fold?! lol
My sincere apologies for not being blinkered and actually buying a variety of different bikes from various corners of the market 😘

I wouldn't knowingly buy something I was hoping to keep and maintain for a long time from China. I've had that opinion for a long time and it's only recently gotten worse about China.

My employer is seeing costs rocketing upwards month on month due to 'restrictions' on previously good Chinese supplied metals. Whilst it's not rare earth stuff, it is niche materials. Even the stuff China usually exports as finished materials requiring no further processing is being strangled, whilst the European refinery processors are struggling to get their raw materials out of China meaning most of them can't meet any new demand. I've heard the exporters are having their export licenses revoked unless they raise the price to something that the issuing body is happy with.

Decades ago, before China was the industrial power it is now, a European company figured they could save money importing ready to use materials rather than refining it in Europe, so with the Chinese government, they came to an arrangement to build and run a processing plant in China. Having shown the locals exactly how to do everything, when the time to sign a continuation on the agreement which they assumed would be a rubber stamp, the Chinese Authority told them no, and kept the plant for themselves. Through sheer greed, a European company literally made it's own direct competitor.

Let's wait and see what they look like after 5 years of winter commuting.
You might be right, but from what I've read on here about weeks old BWMs with corrosion on frames, fixings and spokes they might not be any worse.

much like a huge proportion of that thing you have that was assembled in Berlin from Chinese sub assemblies.

you seem to be rather blinkered about the reality of stuff supposedly manufactured in Europe.
It's impossible to avoid every component made in China but the Boxers are still made in Berlin so the proportion of the price that goes to China is far lower than buying a Chinese bike - so no, you are wrong I am not blinkered in the slightest.

I spent last week working at my local bike shop as they had just received 30 Chinese crated bikes, that had to be uncrated and put together !
I have to say that the quality of build ( both bikes and crates ) was of a high standard, everything was perfectly packaged and with nothing missing, and they all went together without any issues whatsoever.

QJ Motors already supply the engines for MV Augusta and Benelli, and they all have Brembo brakes and Marzocchi suspension as standard..for around half the price of their Japanese equivalents !
There are 2 rally bikes being added next year..a 500 and a 900 if I remember correctly , and they look good.

The dealer already has a Honda franchise but he is now thinking of moving away from their corporate restraints, and the way that Honda like to control and dictate to their franchise dealerships .

For all the critics here...ditch all your home tech, including your smart phone, laptop, nav device, plasma screen, kettle, microwave etc etc.....

The Chinese are now attempting to do what the Japanese done to the motorcycle industry in the 70s..

30 bikes ^^^ that’s a reasonable size sample to see some defects or omissions. This weeks Autoexpress has a review on 30 Chinese cars and un suprisingly its all positive stuff. One fact that shocked me was the number of Car suppliers China has. Yes I know its a massive domestic market yada yada. But just for interest lets compare China with Europe.

So European car manufacturers number 16 ( Ford BM Vw Seat Audi Honda Nissan Citroen Dacia Renault ect..)
Chinese car manufacturers 100 , six times as many. With the USA having all manner of tarrif noise, you can see how production will be re directed to Europe.

One day, maybe in the not too distant future, we will all wonder why we lined Chinese pockets allowing them to impose their will where it wasn't wanted. Their rise will be to the detriment off us, the signs are plainly there for us to see

Reap what you sow.
Buying Chinese is feeding the monster that wants to eat you.

Best of luck on resale value and getting spares in the future.

Resale value was just fine . Time to change the record

Interesting reading on a Euro NCAP test issue on a Chinese made car

Funny you should post that, last week we had an MG3 (in that colour, but a 23 plate) hire car. It had 38k miles on the clock so was cheap as chips to hire....and it was without a shadow of a doubt THE worst car I've ever driven. Worse than 100k mile Police pandas back in the mid 80s ! (So late model Chevettes, Metros, Escorts etc) The MG3 is THE car for anyone who really has given up on life....

Ok, there will be a few just eat delivery riders willing to buy your second hand slave labour bike in the short term. Even they won't want it when they are are facing months off the road waiting for parts that may never arrive.
I am sure Xi is rubbing his hands with the money coming in to spend on landing craft, stolen tech, hi tech fighter jets, drones and more naval ships than the US.
What do you think he is doing that for then?

Not to worry though as long as someone saved a few quid on a faceless characterless new bike 👍

I sold my Voge and lost £1900 in nine months . No more than on any other bike .
Meanwhile someone on here traded in their 1300GS for a new GSA and lost £8000 in less time .
Yet the dinosaurs with their head in the sand still spout the old bollox about resale values etc .

Bet you’ve never even ridden a Chinese bike yet spout crap that they’re characterless etc .

Well the 1300GSA is full of character and Chinese components and will only cost you £25k.

Enjoy ! 🤡

I thought you said it was time to turn the record over

My 1200GS has lost 7K in 19 years BTW

You can't really calculate the depreciation accurately though. You sold the Voge at the peak of peoples interest in the brand. While there was more demand than supply.

It won't be the same after a couple years when the place is awash with competition.

Some people don’t mind spending £2k just to prove a pointless point!
Okay, £1,900 😬

25% depreciation in 9 months and very few miles seems quite a lot to me. I like to buy a bike to be a keeper so depreciation isn't really an issue, pride of ownership is important but I haven't seen a Chinese bike that appeals to me yet.
