Are the Chinese going to take over the bike market ?

I had a 120Y coupe… as I recall the gear shift was a bit strange, bottom left for first , top left second etc.
My son has just taken delivery of a new Jaecoo, the Temu Evoque as he calls it. He’s been waiting three months as they’ve sold so many, they just can’t keep up with demand. He’s leased it, so no issues with depreciation (Granted, it’s built into the leasing cost) and so far, he’s very happy with it.
In March 27, I’m off on a bike tour. I’ve been offered one of several rental bikes, Bennelli or CF Moto. The company who rent them would agree that they’re not the most inspiring things to ride, but they do the job and they don’t go wrong. Parts are cheap for wear and tear items and year by year, they get much better. I bumped into an Italian guy in Portugal in February. He’d ridden down from Milan on a CF Moto 800 and loved it. He thought it was as comfortable as his old GS, but it was half the cost of a new one, so a complete no brainer. How many guys do we all know who did less than a thousand miles between MOT’s last year? How many of them will be able to justify spending £25k on a new GS in the next few years to sit unused in the garage? Offer them a decent alternative that’s less than half the cost, or an ex demo that’s a third of the cost and we can all see which way the wind is blowing. I no longer buy new bikes, but if I was in that market……….

Had a look at a CF MOTO 800 this week, not bad for 7k, what killed was the 3k service intervals stated by the dealer

Fair point. I meant more in day to day transactions like property, cars and other used goods.
