Hello

I am considering an aftermarket exhaust for my '06 1200 GSA.

I like the noise the standard one makes but think that perhaps something a bit more throaty would be good?

Is anyone near Sheffield with either the Remus or Akropovic fitted that I could perv at to see how they sound vs std?

:thumb2

Changing the headers will make more difference and you'll also get a boost in mid range power - albeit with more 'popping and farting'

Be careful if you go listen to a full system as the end can doesn't do a lot on its own - even with the baffle out.

Having said that if you only want a bit more noise the can's the way I would go.

I put a remus end can on my 06 1200gs and it ran like a bag of shite with the baffle out and sounded no louder than std with it in, took it of and put the std back on and no dramas, I then took the advice of here and got a set of arko headers and what a difference, it now pulls cleanly right through the revs and sounds great with the std can, I have been riding 15 years and have had many many bikes and spent £££££ on mods and all I can say is that cat free headers on a gs is the best bang for your buck you will get on any bike :beerjug:

In regard to changing the headers, did you need to change any other settings, or get the bike retuned, Im looking for a full Arko system and also thinking about Ohlins. :D

:green gri the wife knows about the Ohlins.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Will keep an eye out for some headers then. Hell, might as well go for a full system!

:pullface

My Remus ran fine with the standard can. A bit louder but not offensive and a few more pops on overrun. Mid range was better. The Akra system was LOUD until I added some baffles. Its lost the low range rumble but it looks good :). The performance felt no different to the Remus with std can.

for the price of the ohlins you would be able to fit wilbers and a full system :thumb2

I fitted the accelerator module, may have helped don't know, but a different bike with the arko and wilbers suspension, Jekyll and hyde, big supermoto and fantastic 2 up tourer, enjoy the benfits whatever you decide to do, REVS racing sorted the suspension, great guys

K&N makes no difference to horse power. If your going to go down the decatted header route its a must to go and see Geoff at Hilltop. Even with the standard exhaust the engine runs lean (weak) and putting a free'er flowing exhaust on will make it run too lean so you'll never fully achieve what you set out to do in the first place.
A proper remap is money well spent. Geoff has a lot of satisfied customers on here.

Changing the headers gives you a lot of bang for your buck and you don't have to change anything. However, if you go for a different can as well and you take the baffles out, you really need to be looking at a remap or power commander just to help things along. The K&N is a waste of money so I wouldn't bother with that.

I ran my 06 GSA to 70,000 miles with Keihan decated headers and end can with absolutely no bother whatsoever. I've put a Power Commander 111 on now and had it dyno'd and it's brilliant because it's set for me and the way I like to ride which is a big advantage over the remap in my book.

Hi SGT.

I was thinking, about a full akro, and possible hills after, i dont know much about the PC3 or 5, and figured i would probaly make things worse. :blast

Still unsure about Ohlins, as the cost over WP is conciderably more. £2999 Ohlins fitted via local dealer. Revs quotes £1300.

If you go the Power Commander route, make sure you get it set up properly on a Dyno. It makes a huge difference to the bike and I think it's better than the remap. You can just plug the PC in and away you go but I think the extra loot for a Dyno is well worth it:thumb2

If you go for the full Akra system, I would say you will need a PC or a remap to get things right.

I run Ohlins on my 06GSA and they are brilliant but I'm not sure they are much, if any better that a Wilburs so your saving could buy you the exhaust and system:D

Dippers,
I just changed my 05 GSA for a new 2013 GSA. Got a full Akrapovic titanium system complete with removable baffle. Now for sale. This is the wrong section for selling. PM if interested.

Thanks Allan

Hi Allan,

How much are you looking for for your Akra titanium system. Could you please let me know.

Cheers,
Andy

Hi,
Andy would need £500.00 for the full system. Cost £1,200.00 2 years ago. If you send me your email address I'll send you some pictures if required. I'm on the move quite a bit. So don't be alarmed if I don't get back to you immeadiately.

Regards Allan

I had a 2005 1200GS and gutted the can for more noise and better gas flow.
I now have another 2005 1200GS with a standard can, but decatted headers (and an accelerator module fitted).

The headers give more power and better response. The bike is faster too according to a mate following me. The noise is a little louder than the 1st bike too. It's a little more thirsty than the 1st bike, but that might be the accelerator module doing it's thing. I only ever see 48mpg, where the old bike used to do upto 52mpg.

I did have an Akro can with no baffles on, but had to remove it as it was just TOO loud :blast

That's about what I paid for my used Akraprovic Ti Race system with stacked twin cans. I love it.

NOTE the back end will not fit a standard or "normal" aftermarket headers. If you have GSA side case frames you will need button head or countersunk bolts for the front LHS mounting bracket.

Loved the sound from my Akro ! Especially on the over run. Mine is the single titanium oval can. There is no issues with the standard fitting. It is the original OEM BMW system.
