Arkopovic Can Mounting

My bike had one of this fitted when I bought it, and a item of beauty it surely is too.

The sound with the baffle removed is simply awesome as well, so a double bonus.

BUT, I have to say that I am not very impressed with the carbon fibre support bracket.

Yes, it looks very trick, but it does not secure the can enough to stop it from moving.

As a result the can moves inside the bracket. As the engine moves backwards and forwards under heavy load/braking the can slides inside the bracket. So the rubber mounting bobbin is'nt actually doing anything at all.

The net result is that there are now score marks about 5mm either side of the carbon fibre support bracket.

I have just packed the bracket out with shimming steel, to try and get more purchase on the can. But after a quick test run, it has made little differance as the can still moves

I am worried about adding to much shim under it, as I suspect that the carbon fibre will not allow it, ending up with it breaking I suspect.

Anyone else had the same problem?

It's been mentioned by a few people previously I'm afraid, don't believe there is a solution.

If it's the BM version you could always take it back to the dealer for a warranty claim.

If you look up Fuel Exhausts on ebay, they'll may be able to supply you with a rubber strip. It's a sort of "C" shape to lip over the edges of the strap so it can't fall out.

Yep, got the same thing with mine, frankly I'm not bothered, sounds great, and love the bike so sod it.

Im tempted at the BOS system, always seems to get glowing reports particularly for fitting .....................

Yep, same here. Yes, I too think the titanium can looks wicked and sounds excellent but for £460.00, whilst the carbon clamp looks great, it's a bit pants if it damages the can. I'd be interested to know if the BMW Akro cans suffer similarly - I would imagine so as it's essentially the same thing minus the black/yellow/red scorpion sticker.

BTBR - feel free to experiment I've got a spare carbon clamp cluttering up my workbench - brand new, never used and for considerably less than I paid for it

The part number is TL17 (it's on the little yellow sticker on the inside face of the clamp). I got it via NOG in November last year when I was having problems with the fitment of the 'SP' series Akro can which was their budget version and is now discontinued. It's a long story which I won't bore you with.
Anyway, I was charged £48.00 for it. I know.
If you want it, it's yours for 25 quid including postage. As I said, it's never been fitted to the bike. PM me.

It was me with the Two Bros, absolutely loved it but just far too loud for Ms Chees when she was on the back.

Being from the US it did not comply with EU noise regulations and even the insert they sell did not help.

THE BM Akra is the last in a line of different cans I've tried and so far it's the best compromise being quiet enough with the insert fitted for 2 up riding.

Still miss the Two Bros though....

Caused by the can expanding lenght ways when hot and contracting back when cool.
That will be why the origional can has a huge rubber mount, how they thought you could mount a can straight on to the frame with no scope for any movement, makes me want to meet the man who thought it would work.
