You can't go wrong in Lyon. As Wapping said it's the gastronomic capital of France and, if you're into history, culture architecture etc, you won't be disappointed. Again Wapping is spot on, Les Traboules are really worth checking out. They were passages used by silk weavers to transport cloth from one place to another. According to the tour guide who showed us around (years ago) they were handy for resistants in 1940-44 as well.
Places to eat: You have to go to a 'Bouchon'. The classic Lyonnais restaurants.
This page will give you some addresses. My favourite if Cafe Abel but, frankly, you'll be fine in any of them. I STRONGLY suggest you book fairly well in advance as they are very busy, especially at weekends.
Another place that's well worth checking out is
Brasserie Georges. A temple to classic French food that's fairly good value. It has the advantage of being open all the time. Particularly useful as in France a lot of places still close on Sundays.
We always stay at the
College Hotel. On the Place Saint Paul in 'Le Vieux Lyon' it's easily accessible (1 bus from La Part Dieu station where the airport tram arrives).
Enjoy your visit
