Around the world in 53 hours and 45 minutes .

Naaaa…..You have to learn from our @Doc , roll out of bed at 0400, fart do a bit of shuftying around and bobs your uncle. Another 10k in the bank.
How else does he afford all those holidays?
🤣🤣🤣

Company , though our union always inspect before a change as we have set standards to achieve such as black out blinds, naked dancing girls and free flow Moet.

Might have made up one of those 🤣
Yea. The fekkin black out blinds of course….🤣🤣🤣

Interesting post. Thanks for that. Who decides which route you fly if there are reasonable alternatives?

Flight planing department. Well, a computer program really but they check it anyway.

Sometimes we can't come back via Alaska because the weather is to bad in all the ETOPS alternates, so they route us home via Mongolia again which takes even longer and means we have to offload freight and/or passengers.

Don’t tell me you’re another “Fly boy”….
FFS …1 in the house is enough….🤣🤣🤣

Also BA by any chance or retired?? 👍👍👍

An add on to Mr Derek. How much does the jetstreams influence the route you take? I flew back with BA last week and the route took us to near enough to the top of Chile before turning right across the Amazon, most Latam flights just cross the Andes not too far from Santiago.

Yea, I used to love flying over the Andes just over Aconcagua and looking down to see the old crossing across the Andes and just making out the big statue of Christ…..
Many years ago since I’ve done the flight or visited said statue…

The jetstreams influence the route choice hugely when it’s a tailwind to be had . The only caveats are if they have severe turbulence forecast it might not be the best route .

madness

serious squiggly lines

some planning goes into all that

done it both ways - village people is the best way tho :D

Oh, I think there's a few more on here.

The one and only time we managed to fly together to Santiago in January 2024. We hired a couple of V-Stroms and spent an evening on the coast. It was a good craic. Martin has been a skipper since Pontius was a pilot, but I joined this game a little late to be doing command courses in my late fifties, so I kept control of my life instead. Anyway, I had a command on short haul for 3 years 2001 - 2003, but I gave it up to fly the 747 and never looked back, so been there, done that. In between I flew the 777 (like Martin) and have been on the Plastic Fantastic 787 for about 4 years.

We were supposed to be going to Haneda on the 25th of this month, but I'm log term sick (now't serious), but something the CAA want investigated.
He may as well be retired . Fucker is always skiving off sick 🤣

Yeah, right, Pot to kettle, over!

Just need an ATC on here for a full house.

I have LOIQ as a baggage handler...

Janitor as obviously....the janitor.

Interesting fact: I met one of the guys who worked in the air traffic control tower at LHR on one of my commuting flights home. Carlos B. Very similar heritage to mine: northern roots; Valencian connections; one parent English, the other Spanish. He's left now to go and work in the control tower in Melbourne. They have an endearing name for their place of work, they call it "Mordor" (Barad Dur would be more correct, but I guess fewer people would get it then).

I digress..... He offered me a tour of the tower and so I went. They have a large pair of binoculars to view their domain. If memory serves they are on a tripod. They're from a German WWII Tiger Tank, I think he said, and they still use them because they have never found anything better.

Best controllers in the world, the British.
