Anyone know if the back end of the new 1200 Adv. is the the same as the 1200GS.

Was pricing up the cost to change my 1150 to the new Adv. and the complete luggage came to £1400.
That was complete with fitting kit and locks plus inner bags.

Very nice but a lot of dosh.

I would rather keep the Givi gear that I have but not much use if there is not a fitting kit yet.

My understanding (IIRC), from an earlier thread on just this subject, is that, yes, the rear ends are identical and the respective luggage systems should be interchangeable.

Luggage for the ADV

The bike I saw yesterday was fitted up with the 'proper' BMW luggage - all in very tough aluminium mounted on a strong frame - even a connecting bar right across the back of the bike. Obviously designed, like the rest of the bike, to withstand a fairly heavy fall. Is there any point in those solid engine/frame bars unless the rear end is also protected?

If I was to have a 'heavy fall' I would rather write of £100 worth of Givi box as against £400 alloy box.
The Givi frames that have been on previous bikes plus the 1150 at the moment seem as strong as the factory stuff.
Yes, the standard alloy stuff is very nice but the cost could make the difference between having and not having the bike. :(

The std GS12 back end is the same if you take the rack off!!,
So the boxs will fit..Saw somebody try this at local dealer?.
If you spec the luggage as an order with the bike and built at BMW to that spec,, then the price is a good bit cheaper!. ie =pannier frames £50 cheaper than retail and panniers with locks etc quoted at £477 the pair.if ordered with the bike. :thumb

Where did you get a quote like that from?
Name of dealer would be nice.

My dealers smile just broadend as he added up the totals, no indication that there was any discount available or forthcomming. :nenau
