ASA stalling ?

Well other than taking back the bike and giving you another one. What else is it that you want them to do? Maybe grovelling?
Acknowledge the problem, keep customers updated, an apology for the inconvenience (phones calls, emails, multiple visits to the dealer 50 miles away) and potential danger caused by the failure.

I have even had to change my insurance because BMW Motorrad Insurance underwriter have decided the bike is an "unacceptable goup", this has doubled my excess as I've had to go to Bikesure.

I'm quite sure I won't be the first person coming on here and explaining the same problem, maybe they'll end up seriously injured because the bike has stalled immediately in front of a truck that expected them to move off at speed.

I've been riding bikes for 55 years - grew up as a motor vehicle tech before moving to a real job, and I know how to operate a clutch and wish to retain that functionality as it helps you ride a bike more safely
What a load of twaddle. Just because you’re to closed minded to new ideas doesn’t make those ideas wrong. From a safety point of view, a system like the DCT/ASA units can increase safety.

I was an "earlier adopter" and I agree when the system works, it works very well.... but juddering to an immediate halt in front of bigger vehicles that for right or wrong expect you to speed away is very unsafe.

I have a new r1300rt and experienced the stalling issue after about 500 miles worth of running in and is intermittent. However what caused me alarm was the scenario mentioned above, at a junction with a wagon behind me and it stalled. Thankfully the wagon driver stopped in time but it was close. Once the bike is moving no issues at all. Currently back with the dealer to have a look at it and first service.

Hi.... please keep us posted... I do believe this is a wider problem but BMW are downplaying it. In my case I got a new standard clutch bike and it has been absolutely fine.

6000 miles in and my ASA equipped GSA is functioning exactly how I would want it too. I think I’ve ridden it once in manual mode!

New TE ASA, 600 miles. No problems so far. A bit of getting used to it, a bit of it bedding in, but I'm a convert.

Yes, I'm a convert also, just disconcerting having this sporadic behaviour at generally inconvenient and/or unsafe times. I'd say it happened about 10 times over the space of two evenings. BMW dealer gave me an update today and their diags don't find any fault. I suspect this will come down to evidence (in future) from my helmet cam.

I think if this happened to me, I wouldn't be satisfied with 'we can't find fault'. Think of it this way: you have advised BMW (or the dealership) that the fault exists, and were there to be an accident caused by the fault they would be liable, from a legal perspective. I doubt - as others have claimed - that this is a widespread issue, as the legal implications would be enormous. BTW, even reporting it on this thread could be evidence as to what happened, and their response. If I were running that dealership, I would want this dealt with.

Just my two penn'orth. 6K in at the bikes weight limit most the time, 2 up all over those Alpine switchbacks in pouring rain and temperatures up to 38 degrees it still worked a treat. Twice its switched to neutral when I've been sat at lights, that would be the only anomaly but never stalled.

Slow control requires a different technique and a little practice, previously used the clutch to moderate the power to the rear wheel, keeping the rear brake and throttle constant, I've just adapted to doing it with the throttle and brake. I'm no Gymkhana expert but can happily tootle along at a walking pace. Off-road I can see the benefit of the clutch but the most my bike will see off-road is a gravel car park. I've not regretted buying it, especially if you were taught the Hendon shuffle with all that faff at lights and in traffic. Maybe I'm just getting lazy.

I've have noticed in Dynamic it holds the gears longer and doesn't try to get to 6th by 30mph like in the other modes so perhaps laboring the engine could be a cause? . I would say 70% of the time I ride in manual which is smoother than the regular quick shifter but on the long slogs across Motorway/Autobahn roads I'll just put it in auto.

So ASA gets(y) ... now if you had asked my thoughts on the new type key which goes to sleep to save the battery.....break out the pitch forks and get the fire ready!

It's been to the dealer and "no fault was found" I then got the bike back, took it out the following day and it happened again, this time with two devices recording it all. Went back to the dealer and now they have raised an issue direct with BMW. Let's see what they say. However, all being said, I do prefer the ASA functionality, I would just like this resolved from a safety aspect.

Least you are getting it on camera so fingers crossed they get it sorted for you.🤞

Mine has stalled a few times over the last 1000 miles and maybe gone into neutral once , but generally the bike is a keeper . Great machine
