I'd love to see a square-on photo from the rear please?

Is there any reason why the sidewall couldn't be a bit narrower to aid access?

No not really, the position of the opening panel needs to be such that a cut out has to be incorporated in the top leading edge of the panel so it doesn`t catch on the pannier locating bracket.

If I reduce the width of that flange then the cut out reveals a gap. The width also lends itself to the use of a neoprene seal if anyone wants to.

hard to describe but I hope you get the idea - the reduction would be minimal anyway, because of this issue.

I needed a new profile for a project I'm working on and it took three weeks from sending them the profile drawing and receiving 100 meters of silicon seal.

No connection with them other than being a happy customer.

I like awesome people like this - people after my own heart - I went from drawing to useable item with this toolbox in a couple of weeks.

Just so everyone knows, Mark is a greta bloke who has just gone out of his way to sort out my tool box in time for me to pick it up on my next UK visit.

He is about to go away for a while and I think he was concerned that from the time of his return to when I could pick up the box would be too short for him to construct the box then.

So, I think he burned the midnight oil for me and got the job done.

He is about to go away for a while and I think he was concerned that from the time of his return to when I could pick up the box would be too short for him to construct the box then.

To be honest, you are right - it would have taken me weeks to get it done if I would have missed this `window` but its no probs, I`m happy to do my best for any goodly person.

Also kind of you to say mate, I just hope you are happy with it (I suspect and hope you might be) - its the Mark 1 after all!

And you can`t take allllllll the credit, that bugger Keith Bouncer was snapping at my heels not to be let down either.

And also, a very public apology to Falco9 - he asked for a toolbox before I went, I threw myself at the work and basically made it and sent it to the wrong person! I am very very sorry about this - what with all the running around I simply got confused. I am very sorry - its not often that I ever let people down. Its also a problem tying up the forum handles with the paypal payment - if you guys can remind me who you are when you pay on paypal it would help! SeanC - you were the recipient of the mistake!

Great looking solution to the tool store issue. I'm on the lookout for something similar for my metal mule equipped F8GS...

Another observation on your design:

Does it need to be a hinged acces door? If the bottom (or top) edge had a 'kink' in it so a lip sat inside the box, then you could ditch the hinge altogether - saving a little weight, cost and build time.

In fact, if the lid was a simple flat panel with a small flange around the edge to hold a silicon seal securely, then four dzus fasters would hold it closed and probably waterproof.

You are right about the hinges, but it does mean that the lid stays attached to the box at all times - its a great idea and I may see what the lads think but I have a feeling there would be a preference towards the hinges. Any comments guys?

Also, I`ve tried the dzus fasteners and a small flange - it didn`t make it fully waterproof despite what I did so in the end I gave up and put two drainage holes in the bottom of the box. Personally, I think water will get in somewhere and I`ll be putting my stuff in waterproof bags even if I had devised a methoed of waterproofing - I may however revisit it one day but I was also under a lot of pressure to get something out for the lads who needed `something` to get them away.
