At last, the fekkin toolbox!

Apology fully accepted Mark (and although not needed its much appreciated) we are all human and all that...... Plus to be honest my need isn't as great as Sean's as I don't have to get back to Africa :D I'm sure he'll buy me a pint by way of compensation if we ever meet up :beerjug:

I've got your number and I'll give you a call once your back from your hols and arrange to pop down and collect mine in person. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait :drool

Gooooooooooooot one!!!!!!!!!!!

Mate, following our phone call I contacted the guy who does the Tig welding - he had an earlier prototype there so I got it off him and put it together - to me it seems absolutely fine and well fit for purpose.

I`ve sent you a text, I am hoping to have got you before leaving Grimsby. If not you are welcome to collect from my `Kath` - just say who you are, give her the dosh and all is well but let me know if you want it posting out, thats also no probs!

Some feedback:-

> Easy to fit
> Once secured into place, no movement
> Sturdy & robust construction
> I like the 'just fabricated' look
> Lock is good, and once the side lid is locked it feels solid & secure
> I fitted the top brackets first, and to a third tightness; this allows you to position the box just so, and you can then allow room for the pannier to slide into place...once done, then fully tighten

Hope this is useful.

Oops! Sorry about that. I am however truly grateful....... If that helps......
Sean

ha - funny man u are keith

"I like the 'just fabricated' look"

It was.......................

Surprised the Tig welding still wasn`t warm when you opened it.

Now leave me alone :D

But seriously, thanks for the opinions, constructive or positive - I am sure the other lads will be thankful as I can easily have crap in my eyes over all my babies.

Told you it was sturdy...............

Pleased you liked the lock - it was the most expensive and best quality I could find and its worth it.

Just a very good thought!

You are right about the hinges, but it does mean that the lid stays attached to the box at all times - its a great idea and I may see what the lads think but I have a feeling there would be a preference towards the hinges. Any comments guys?

Further thought on the removable lid thread:

If the lid had a piece of high density foam glued to the inside, it could be used for resting the wheel hub / your knees on during a tyre change / repair?

Is it big enough for that?

Mmmmm

Don`t think it is big enough for that pal but good idea anyway :thumb2

Some feedback, post trip....

Well, I'm delighted to report that after 3600 miles, both on & off road, and dropped a couple of times too....the Hooton tool box was bomb proof..:clap

The only thing that happened, was I lost a nut from the lower securing arm that connects to the pannier frame...but the bolt stayed in...

I got wet a couple of times, but my tools were placed in a dry bag & perfectly fine. In fact, very little water found its way into the box...:thumb

Brill!

Brill mate, I am pleased you found it value for money.

Do you need any more fasteners to replace the ones you have lost?

:beerjug:

Ok mate, let me know :thumb

Btw the bolt stayed in coz its mine and its black magik init :D.

Well the bolt did have a hazy glow about it....:green gri

Yep, a nut is required

But seriously pal it should not have come off in the first place - it was a nyloc

Not sure mate...everything else was fine, but I did go over several miles of bloody gnarly washboard type stuff...thought I had tightened it sufficiently...:nenau

ok

Ok mate, Monday is my last day at work so if i get the chance (doubtful) I`ll sling a stainless nyloc in the post for you.

If i forget it will have to be when i get back from Scotland in about a weeks time so you may have to remind me.

Your address? (PM me it if you don`t wanna get stalked.........) :D
