G'day.
I'm in the middle of rebuilding the forks on my '79 R80/7.
The first damper rod went in very easily using the barrel of a large syring to make a ring compressor. The second one just will not go, I've tried using feeler guages, strips of film and a cut down coke can; which are all tricks I've seen on the net, but no go.
Any (polite) suggestions? Please hurry, I'm starting to hear the voices....

are the rings still in line and not crossed over at all. they have a nasty habit of getting crossed over each other.

have you fitted new rings or are these the originals?

i went though a similar thing the last time i rebuilt an ate front end. i ended up putting the damper in for one of the legs from the other end of the fork tube with all the hassle that entails.

Finally got it in! Won't take those out again in a hurry....
It finally went in from the top using a bit of a coke can to ease it's passage. Oo-er missus...
At least now both fork legs should be the same length.
Cheers
