Folks,

I've done a bit of a search on this site for information on the latest 'Atlantis' offering from BWM and was wondering if anybody has worn and can recommend (or otherwise) the Atlantis 4 suit ? The threads (if I've search properly) didn't have much on this latest version, but a lot of people have enjoyed their ownership experience of previous versions. There has been some talk of the waterproof membrane being part of the outer skin of the latest jacket, but according to the BWM website, there's no mention of a membrane (Gore-tex or otherwise), just that the jacket is made of 'hydrophobic' leather and is quick drying when it gets wet. The sales guy at my local dealer said they didn't have any in stock, but it was a Goretex membrane all right. I have my doubts and I'd like to get some feedback from those of you who know a bit more. DO you think its a good 'all-rounder (I realise the perfect suit for all seasons does not really exist) for spring/ summer/ early autum riding. Also, what about the cost and (dare I say) value of the suit. Thanks in advance.
Also, I'd just like to wish all those who come across this note and take time to reply to my 'quest for information', all the very best for Christmas and the New Year. :thumb2

I bought the ATLANTIS 4 trousers, heavy, nice to wear, but they let water in around the crutch area the first time it rained (second day of a 10 day holiday in Scotland)not happy after paying £400+took them back to the dealer and got a refund.
The bumf that comes with the trousers does not claim to have a Gor-tex lining or membrane, but bmw claim they are 100% waterproof.
What they advise you to do is buy there proofing liquid and wash them in the washing machine to reproof them.I i had known this i would not have bought them in the first place.for another £55 on the price of the trousers i bought RUKKA ARMAX trousers with a 5 year garantee from the Motorcycle clothing co in Norfolk who gave a very good discount on the £599 price of
ARMAX.

I bought the Atlantis 4 trousers and am very pleased with them. I spent an extremely wet week in Ireland in September and despite riding in torrential rain several hours a day, the trousers didn't let in a drop of water. There was no leakage around the crotch.

They are also very comfortable and unlike most of my motorcycle gear, I could sit around in the evening at the pub without feeling overly conspicuous.

As Night Trunker says, the Atlantis 4 suit does not have a Goretex liner, but taped seams which BMW claims make it waterproof compared to the Atlantis 3.
If the taped seams leaked, then that is fault with the suit and should have been changed under the 2 year warranty.

Atlantis 4 suit.....

Guys,

Thanks for the replies - its as I suspected - no Goretex material, but these 'taped seams' that BMW claim help the waterproof qualities of the suit. It looks nice, but I might hold off and see if anyone brings down the price of their Goretex pro-shell leather suits (Rukka Lancelot anyone ?)

Been offline until today, hence the delay in replies.

Cheers,
Kev

A bar where men in leather trousers aren't conspicuous? What sort of bar is that then?;)
