Has anyone got these? I fancy a pair of the trousers if they perform as advertised but I'd love to hear what folk who have them think.

I've got an Atlantis III suit.

I use the trousers with other jackets. The water-proofing works, up to a point.

Sustained heavy rain will eventually get through, mainly the seat.

I have the GoreTex liner for the trousers only. I've only felt I had to use the liners on a couple of occasions in three years.

It IS counter-intuitive but yes you can chuck leathers in the washing machine!

Mike,
Thanks for that.

If I have understood the press release correctly, it seems that the new 4 series stuff doesn't have or doesn't need an inner liner for waterproofness?

Chris,

Well oi'l be pharked!

Based on their claims for the previous model, if I had either the need or more importantly the money, I'd be down the dealer in the morning for one.

The claims about the absorbency and the quick drying, I can vouchsafe for (regarding the III).

Motorcycle clothing is a very personal thing. Here's what I like about the Atlantis:

I like the old fashioned sense of protection that leather gives and I like the cut of the Atlantis, it doesn't look like the usual 'biker leathers' stuff.

Unlike many textile suits that need to be bulky to get the same level of abrasion protection, if you want extra weather protection in the cold or extreme wet, you can easily put an over-suit on top.

As already said, being able to chuck it in the washing machine is a huge bonus (and there's less dismantling of layers required than some textile gear to do so).

Downsides:

The trousers have no vents and they are heavy but I've yet to find a pair of trousers that have effective vents (except the BMW Summer trousers but their protection levels are dubious). The jacket is short on usable pockets and only has two small sleeve vents, having said that, it's my preferred every day choice.

I find that a combination of the Atlantis trousers with a Twat II Pro jacket is okay in summer (even in Morocco last year).

Big advantage of the BMW stuff is that it can all be mix & matched, full and half zips mean that the Atlantis trousers can be zipped to other jackets.

I love mine too

Atlantis 3 seriously good jackets

Used Atlantis 1's on our trip to Nordkapp in 2001. I had mine replaced with 2's due to failed zips a while later. Used these (pillion still in version 1) on honeymoon in Spain/Morocco 2004. Used mine commuting (100+ miles a day) throughout spring/autumn/winter 2001/2002 and the 50+ miles 2004-present day. Plus business trips all over England, and for the last couple of years monthly trips to Cardiff (from London). Guess I have done about 70-80k in my current set.

Absolutely fabulous. Downsides were the failed zips on the jacket (three) and failed fastener on trousers. All these occurred on the first version.

Get a bit hot in summer, but the trousers are more comfortable than the Airflow 1 ones I bought - these are black only in uk, and despite all the vents, absorb heat from the sun in a way the Atlantis dont.

I have never had the Goretex liners, I have just used a rainsuit if I thought I was going to be out in heavy rain for more than an hour or so.

The arms on my 2 are a little loose around the biceps and can flap slightly at Autobahn speeds.

In the summer, in real heat I have used both my Rallye and Denim suits, but havent felt the need to get either out so far this year.

I have fitted the extra hip armour to the trousers, and it is very slightly scratchy when not wearing a base layer.

Havent crashed in them, so cant comment on that aspect.

But they have lasted unbelievably well, still look great (and have never been washed except by the rain) and if I hadn't lost 20kg in the last 6 months I wouldnt be thinking of buying owt else. As it is, I need to replace this suit, and the Atlantis 4 is currently joint top of the list. (I am seriously thinking of getting a Crowtree suit whilst I still can).

As Mike P and JB have said....

I have the Atlantis 3 and hardly ever need the Goretex liners in them. I'm actually on my third pair  Must have done over 200,000 miles in them though. Best bit o' kit you'll ever buy :thumb

Had the jacket once, many years ago.. wasn't impressed, it didn't suit mi figure  I wear the pants with a Streetguard 2 jacket, or my twat jacket. Both zip together fine.

I've crashed in them and never so much as marked them, well not on the outside anyway  I've ridden through several winters in them, been in 50 degrees plus in Turkmenistan in them.... slept in them.... no complaints :thumb

But can't vouch for the Atlantis 4's though which have the Goretex liner fixed in. The 4's also have little pockets on the front and nearly impossible to get your hand in to the pockets.... Ideal for a Yorkshireman then eh! Whereas the Atlantis 3's have side pockets... so I've no excuses

Atlantis 4

Had Atlantis 2 still have Atlantis 3 with gortex(only used twice in three years), and have bought Atlantis 4 suit. Out on Saturday in massive downpour of rain all day, brilliant, only wet in usual place between jacket and trousers where zip ends but if wear non wick undergarments this is not a problem. Atlansis 4 has gortex built in.

Brilliant suit .:beerjug:

Thanks for the feedback - it certainly seems about as well-endorsed bit of kit as I am likely to find. There goes more of my dosh..

Should 'ave said that I got my set half price when the 2's came out (got the 2's as replacement for the failed 1's) and my pillion got a set for very very little money (dealer principle orders special size from Germany for his missus, she decides against, so brand new, strange size, took 6 months to get them - parts manager tried to flog them to every customer he could think of with a wife/girlfriend vaguely that size before he sold them to me for (much) less than cost to him.

I will buy Atlantis 4's, but probably not until the 5's are out and I can get the 4's half price.....

I have got Aerostitch, Rukka, Street Guard and Atlantis Suit. None of them are perfect. Prefer the Atlantis suit for riding comfort and its quite a discreet suit, which may not suit everyone on this site,:augie but it is my favorite by a long way.:thumb

I just sold my Jacket (A2 ),I have nothing more to add but...I washed the Jacket with the BMW supplied detergent (two bottles at £14) as per instructions .The jacket lost some color and the slight oily feel the leather had .After washing you are suppose to spray the jacket with the waterproofing/oil or whatever is the stuff . The jacket was covered in this white spray/mist and it dried very fast .I had to rewash the jacket . BMW parts person was no help .Strange thing is that the previous BMW detergent was just one bottle and the jacket was like new after the wash.
Saving for the RUKKA Lancelot.

Well,
I sprang for the Atlantis 4 trousers yesterday from Bahnstormer. They certainly feel good to wear and I am sure I am going to get a lot of use out of them.

I like the discreet look - I can leave my twatsuit jacket off and look more or less normal when off the bike.

Thanks for all the help guys.
