I have just finished speaking to the very nice chaps at 3M. Their technical department gave me a very heavy hint that the stuff that I need to reproof my Atlantis 3 jacket and trousers is their shoe reproofer. He said it was what the original hydrophobic treatment chemical or 'Scotchgard' is. There are several different 'Scotchgard's' depending on the material.
They said wash as normal in liquid soap (tech wash £5 for 200ml or Asdas £1.99 for a litre-take your pick) and allow to dry normally. Then spray this stuff on

Its the cheapest I can find at the moment. It will bring the DWR of your Atlantis suit back to it's orginal waterproofness and restore its ability to bead.
Obviously I will report back as soon as I try it. Might even try a before and after video although I may need the services of a yoof who is doing a media qualification at the moment.

Do report back with your findings, have not cleaned mine yet!

Well I can confirm that it works-hurrah!
Sorry no video as the yoof is doing his final media project and can't fit it in.
Anyway, the water doesn't bead in the same way as it did when new but the leather does not wet-out like it used to. Moreover, as soon as it stopped raining it starts to dry out and the trouser bottoms and jacket arms which seem to catch it most are dry in about 20 mins.
Top stuff I say.:thumby:

thanks for updating, looks like I shall have to get some, was one can enough?

The leather didn't dry out ?

The leather, when wet with water, did dry out properly. The scotchgard did not 'dry' the leather out...I think that is what you were asking?

None that I could see, in fact there was colour enhancement. There were some areas on the arms that had faded slightly due to sun bleaching and they were darker afterwards.

I used the BMW Kit,which adds the conditioner ( feels like oil to the touch )in the wash and than you use a spray gun on the jacket. Almost £33 now:eek:
My dealer is telling me that BM may offer a reproofing service in the future for the Atlantis gear.
You see the oil in normal leather with time evaporates/dry s out, that why you use conditioner. With the nubuck is a different ball game, because a bit of leather was sanded/buffed off , the structure of the leather was altered. Die/oil process in the Atlantis is high tech, so I am surprised that after you washed the jacket ( tech wash has no oil or conditioner ) you could spray on and there was no change in the structure of the leather ( ie dryness and loss of colour ), maybe next time I shall try out your method .

Direct from 3M

and this one for fabric

The top one shoe repellant is the one I used. It seems that direct from 3m is a good deal at the moment.
With regards washing, the liquid soap shouldn't affect the structure of the nubuck. Mine still feels the same.
