Hi, my name is John and Im new to the forum... however, have had my 1994 R1100GS since 2001 i believe?... a while anyway...

Suddenly my fuel economy has gone to pot. The guys at japandgerman reckon its the throttle bodies and particuarly the butterflies that are worn... Im literally getting 100 miles from the tank instead of 200 before the reserve/orange light goes on... Has anyone experienced this? Replacing the bodies seems like an expensive old job and not sure if i can do it myself or need to pay someones labour?

Also last night someone apparently tried to steal the GS... came out this morning to find the whole lock barrel gone... the idiot obviously didnt know the bike wouldnt start with the side stand down, or got disturbed, or couldnt get the steering lock off... but i just started it with the screw driver extention in the rear seat tool box... apparently only the dealers do the lock barrels motobins tell me... oh well...

Has anyone go second hand cyclinder covers? I got knocked off a while ago and the poor GS and me went for a little slide down the road... no big deal just a nasty scrape... well i think it looks quite cool... but i want to sell and upgrade.

thanks

john

Hi John....welcome to the site.

I`ve moved your post here because it`s less of an introduction and more a couple of questions.

Is both the barrel AND the ignition switch block at the bottom of it damaged ??
I may have a barrel but you`d need a new switch block....available from the likes of Motorworks,James Sherlock and MotoBins....not only Dealers.

You can`t advertise or reply in the For Sale and Wanted Forum unless you`re a Site Sponsor....but is the rocker cover (I assume that`s what you meant by 'cylinder cover') too damaged to smooth out and repaint ?

Hi Steptoe, interested to read this thread and the other where injector was cause of problems.
I have just started to have a similar problem with poor fuel consumption (and problems getting CO setting correct), also motor does seem to have more vibration than it used, altho balanced OK just like tyhe other 1100...is it straightforward to check voltage on injectors to see if this may be on its way out and if so what is the value it should be?
thanks again

yep the right rocker cover is pretty ground down... 40-50 feet of tarmac scraped... could i get used parts and new gaskets from motoworks?

thanks for moving my post Im looking forward to trying out everyones suggestions.

many thanks

You most likely could do,mate.....subject to their stocks at the time, but the small cost of Site Sponsorship would enable you to put a 'wanted' ad in the For Sale & Wanted Forum and most likely get whatever bits you need at a much reduced price from a fellow Tosser :thumb
