Some thieving scrote attempted to pinch my 2011 adventure. They didn't get far as they couldn't start the bike and the bike was quickly found and recovered by plod.

Now, all I can see that they have done is to remove the ignition switch by removing the 2 M3 screws and then attempting to work the switch using a screw driver. Fair play to them they seem to have done this without causing any damage.

I have refitted the ignition switch and when the key is turned the ignition cycle seems to be as normal, all the lights and checks appear on the display as normal however when I press the start button all I get is a click from some relay somewhere and nothing else.

The start button is in the correct position, bike in neutral, side stand up and clutch lever pulled in.

Any ideas as where to look next?

Symptoms sound like a flat battery - put a meter across the terminals when you have the starter button pressed and that should tell you...

Still worth checking battery, have had several intelligent chargers that said a battery is ok but when load applied nothing there. Know anyone with a GS911? Could be something to do with the ring attena for the immobiliser but not sure if you would get anything at all.

OK, just put a meter across the battery and it's reading 12.74v when off and 12.39 with the ignition on which seems to be normal? :nenau

Voltage sounds ok, what does it do when you press the starter button? The voltage i mean.

Have you looked at the starter? may have had the wires off the solenoid or even tried to short them out. Short feed wire to solenoid wire can get the engine to spin but not start. Seen some cooked wires/starters on recovered bikes.

I've looked at it and there is no visible damage, no exposed wires.

Will spend some time on it tomorrow, thanks for the responses, any more suggestions will be welcomed.

Right, found a loose wire but cannot see where to reattach.

Its the one highlighted on the diagram, anyone know what it is and where is should attach?

Cheers

That looks like it goes to the injector or something around there.

Oh, I know they'll be back eventually as they seem to know what they were doing.

I've fitted some cameras and better exterior lighting this weekend but to be honest if they want it they'll get it, however....

If I get a face on camera....

Just have to find a couple of pipe hittin black fellows
