Audio nirvana remains elusive

I can't think any other motorcycle stuff on which I have wasted so much time and money as my years-long search for half-decent audio in a bike helmet.

Fitting decent quality speakers in the helmet turned out to be a waste of time - the position of the speakers is so critical, that even a small adjustment of the helmet on my head spoiled everything, even a FiiO amp didn't improve it sufficiently

My latest attempt was a set of tasty Klipsch Image S4 earphones and some custom earbuds made by ACS.

All was good, up until the point I tried to put the helmet on - no way, the ACS earbuds put the earphones too far out to get the helmet over it

Thought this might stop some other innocents splashing out on this route (especially as ACS advertise the the custome earbuds for use on bike).

Be interested to hear if anyone has solved this and got decent audio in their helmet
 
I've always thought it's a real pity a helmet can't be designed along the lines of Helicopter crew stuff... they have headphones that clamp down over the ears on pulling of a strap on the outside, making for a nice seal ...
 
Take a look at these= Sennheiser MM 30i earphones

Small enough to fit in my ears and to be as good as earplugs on there own,
comes with soft rubber tips, in three different sizes.

Easy to get my helmet on without pulling the buds out & good sound.

They do not cut you off from the outside world.

Has pause/play, volume/skip track & answer phone functions
with a standard 3.5mm plug.

I've felt the same way for some while, effectively ear defenders with small speakers inside, perhaps then I could listen to music or chat to others without having to have earplugs in and audio on full blast
 
Mibbies it,s just me but i have had good results with the autocom range of equipment up to m/way and occasionally :augie autobhan speeds

As long as you have a lid they fit neatly into, but this can be tricky to tell until after you have bought the lid.

Sure would like something "in-ear" if it would be comfy and connect to autocom.
 
I have the ultimate ear custom plugs with inbuilt speakers and find the audio/music quality reasonably good, I also only have to run the comms at the lowest setting even at motorway speeds, whereas using the in helmet speakers the sound was cranked up full to overcome the moulded earplugs I used to use, to get the same effect. The 3.5mm Jackplug of the custom (UE) plugs fit into a 3.5mm female jack buit in the comms headset
 
It may be worth looking at Tork Xpros as they are thin helmet speakers with best in class audio range and good volume. They do a booster too.

Tork are a Canadian company and highly respected in North America.

+1 for Ultimate ear with speakers build in, they sound pretty good to me and I spend a whole week wearing them everyday around Ireland, my bud has same ones and he liked them also.

We had them from a guy called Dave Marshall, 07956 261430.

PS, I have no connection with Dave or Ultimate, just a happy customer so far :)
 
The thing that makes me reluctant to buy some expensive 'in ear' jobbies is that I like to use disposable ear plugs rather that putting something in my ear repeatedly .....

I too have found the Autocom speakers to be of very decent quality, I guess it's all about perspective. I'm expecting to ride along with audio quality commensurate with that of sitting in my lounge with my Sennheiser's on!
 
I paid a small fortune for custom ear buds, but when they failed a couple of years later I wanted something less expensive to replace them. So I did a lot of research into this, and what a ended up buying was this http://www.radiopaq.com/earphones/Dots
The prices range from around £7 to £13 depending on where you buy. I have worn them all day long and they have been perfectly comfortable under my lid, and the sound quality is pretty good too. They are better than my custom made headphones that I had, and for that price you can get a spare set as well :D

the UE monitors can be cleaned quite easily, are easier to use than foam plugs,sound quality is better than green leopard version,and IMHO more than good enough for music on the bike/comms..........doubt you will ever get quality equivalent to sitting in your lounge as that implies total block on all external sound, considered not a good thing when riding a bike:D
 
10 year old autocom pro1

Ive tried many things and have ended up with autocom speakers and and 12v powered amplified music source into the autocom. Never need it on full volume as it is very loud.

I've considered the UE monitors, but they are expensive and their reputation for fragility puts me off - I've no time for gear that needs to be mollycoddled.
 
anyone ever tried this kit http://www.buhel.com/en/d01.html
it uses the body of the helmet as a speaker. Just wondering if it works, have read good reports but not heard results myself but am considering investing so any feedback appreciated.
